It was the ride of shiny new bikes today .....

Very nice.
I particularly approve of the idea of punctuating bikes with bubbly.  :)

Ice cream and fizzy drink stops featured heavily.
For us too, yesterday.
Much more fun doing it to dodgy disco music in a fboab sylee ;D

Third day in a row for me. This is almost unheard of. about 12 miles, about an hour.

Had my first real taste of sitting on someone's wheel, too, with a commuter going my way. Amazed how much of a "pull" I felt. After a few moments it freaked me out so I carried on past him, but I suspect he sat behind me for a while - as we turned 90 degrees into a hideous side-wind, we got chatting and he sat on my shoulder to shelter me from the worst of it.

Unknown bloke (who looked familiar and might be from my office) - this is for you

Out today, seeing as my sair back was less sair today.
A nice 22km pootle on my muddy new Decathlon Btwin Rockrider 5.3 mtb.

I headed in the general direction of Dean Plantation, via some farm tracks to Crossford.  Had a wee explore of a rather muddy Dean Plantation.  Must have taken a  wrong turn as ended up on the Dunfy to Alloa cycle track at one point.
Eventually headed back into Dean Plantation, done a bit more exploring.  Fell off a couple of times, ending up with a muddy bum.   :D Walked / pushed the bike on any technical drop offs / rooty bits / steep bits...   :-[

All in all, a lovely few hours on the mtb!  Best £250 I have ever spent!   ;D

Another lunchtime ride from work for the London to Cambridge ride this weekend. There were just 3 of us today, so I went on the front and pushed the pace a little harder than last week. One guy had just had his bike serviced at an LBS. So we had to tighten the front brake cable up since it hadn't been done up properly, and we also discovered the new rear tyre wasn't properly seated and was bulging slightly.
Hissing at pieces of dismantled bicycle like a cornered stoat.

Thought I'd make the most of the afternoon, so I went out on a loop from Mos Eisley Spaceport Portsmouth, taking in Denmead, Corhampton, Bishop's Waltham, Wickham, Fareham, then back in along the A27. The parcours from Cosham round to Fareham is best described as... "rolling".

Apart from not really having any climbing legs, and it being a tad rainy at the top of the loop, it was a nice ride. ;D

I went on a test ride for a ride I'm leading soon with a club friend. 67 miles in all and I am now sunburnt, but got very wet feet. I was glad of my SPD sandals when we got to some flooded sections of road because I walked through carrying my bike on the basis my bearings are more important than my legs  ;D Despite the walking managed a 14.3mph average speed.

The pub I had chosen turned out to be a real gem with a great menu (bacon and liver with mashed potato peas and gravy was epic) and massive beer garden. On the way back we encountered the most stupid thing I have ever seen a farmer do. As we approached a T junction there were 2 manky looking lame cows slowly walking up the lane. There was no sign of any human near them. We passed slowly then went to turn left onto the larger lane. As we did my friend Mike suddenly hit the deck. The farmer had tightly tied a piece of baler twine across the road to stop his cows turning left there. Unfortunately it was virtually invisible so Mike rode straight into it. Luckily it was a low speed off and his worst injury was a rope burn to his right elbow! The farmer quickly appeared and untied his death trap and helped Mike to his feet apologising. I pointed out that what he had done was massively illegal. Mike didn't want to make a fuss about it and sue his silly arse so we carried on.

Other than fuckwitted farmers it was a great day out and with some minor tweaks my ride will be a goer. I will make sure I am on the front when I reach that turn with the group!

Another "getting back into the swing of it" rides. And considering I've just done a little over 20 miles, I feel pretty good - I'm getting my biking legs back :)

A tandem ride with a pal out to the White Hart in Wakering where beer and lunch were enjoyed. Just short of 13 miles and we just about avoided any rain.

I took a train to Dorking to go to a shop, but they didn't have what I needed.  I took the train back to Leatherhead and rode home from there.  Off-road a lot of the way, and awfully muddy in places, but a flattish and quiet route home nonetheless.  25km, which is more than I've managed since the night before my off.

I cycled from Cambridge to the seaside at Sheringham on Monday. 93 miles via Lakenheath, Swaffham and Fakenham.  A dull route across the fens to Lakenheath, but fast with a tailwind. The weather varied from smur to drizzle to light rain and back again. I met my friend Nick at the café in Fakenham and we rode together to Sheringham, following National Cycle Route 1 to Wighton and then heading east to the sea. This route was pretty good except for the half-kilometre of muddy track near Barsham. Here's Nick entering the ford at Great Walsingham:

I cycled back on Wednesday, taking a route going the other way round Thetford via Larling and Risby. It was showery with a little sunshine, and there was a headwind all the way. Norfolk is pretty, with fields of lavender in bloom, and really quiet: away from the B-roads, I saw very little traffic all day. I did see a sparrowhawk and a skylark ascending.

Just a trip out up the hill to the hospital then out to Deen City Farm (or thereabouts), where I met up with Butterfly & one of her charges to ride to Morden Hall Park for lunch.  The rain came siling down as we left, but it soon cleared up, and I rode along the Wandle Trail, noting with pleasure where one particularly badly designed gate had been replaced by a pleasant gap with a good surface and raised beds to the edge.  Then home.  Far enough, in the circumstances.

I did 36 miles with BTOTC to Magor in Wales for lunch. It was a bit of a pootle really, but I impressed some with my demon descending. Alex Von T said he has only ever been overtaken by one female rider downhill before and that was Beryl Burton  ;D

Feline - 1) glad to hear Mike's ok (I presume this is Mike of tandem fame?)
2) is this a BTOTC ride you're going to be leading? (again, I'm presuming yes cos of Mike!)

Yes, it's a long Tuesday ride coming up end of August.

On todays ride I did a very impressive maximum speed of 3639 mph apparently! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/201018136

Does it have to be today?
If not, a couple of weeks back I did my first 50 miles since last years op and the first 40ish were all off road.

BCN - Wolvo to Brum
Grand Union - Brum to Warwick and the 8 miles on road to visit my grandson. Collected three BCQ answers on the way and didn't hurt besides pulling my back getting the laden bike up the slope at Shrawley Tunnel.

Grand Union towpath was slim and very slippery once out of Brum. I had to wash my legs twice in the canal and again before I was allowed into number two daughter's house.
Never knowingly under caffeinated

Last night it didn’t rain for the first time in living memory so straight after dinner I was out on the Viscount project bike. Around fifteen miles in a little over an hour stopping occasionally to adjust the odd rattle. Front mech requires occasional trimming to stop the chain rubbing so I need to true that up a bit over the weekend – I just plonked the mech on in roughly the right position when I built it up last Saturday. But it’s a nice brisk ride and I’m pretty pleased with it overall…and it’s great to be able to get out for a spin round the lanes after work. Looking forward to more at the weekend.

83 miles to see Marj and jogler OTP. Average speed of 15.5mph which is ok really since the route down had nearly 2000ft of climbing in it and the flat route home featured the obligatory headwind.

Most entertaining bit of the journey was 2 artics who had obviously thought attempting to go under this bridge, http://goo.gl/maps/0ycw , was a good idea. It's so low that the streetview car didn't go under it. Mistake compounded by all the other idiots in cars who'd followed the lorries into the entrance then couldn't reverse because of each other, total gridlock on a tiny country lane  ::-) Bikes are great!  :D

Good day!
