And so it begins..

Salvatore, Andrij, TimO, Toekneep and Gillp had arrived when I got there tonight.

Looks like they gave us our own field to play in.

If we're having a heaviest bike competition, I reckon I might win.

I'll take a few photos tomorrow - I'm on the 10.20 from Waterloo, if any Londoners are also travelling down.  I don't think it'll be a bad ride from KX to Waterloo, and I have over an hour to do it.

I'm looking forward to this lots

My roll mat will need a long vehicle sign on it!

Is it cold out there - how many clothes do we need?
It is simpler than it looks.

It's quite mild and will be mild all weekend BUT it's always useful to have a woolly hat and fleece if you plan to sit outside after dark.  It's fairly high and exposed at Wyke Down but luckily there won't be much in the way of wind-speed all weekend.

Francis, your bike looks ready for racing compared to mine.

Mind you, I refuse to travel without a teapot.

Panniers are in the middle of the living room  :D

Trying to decide what I'll need for the following week....do I take the fleece or the insulated jacket,  will one pair of boxer shorts be enough for evenings....    full cooking kit or plan to camp near pubs and eat there  :P

The best piece of clothing I have ever bought for winter cycling and/or camping is an Endura Baa Baa long-sleeve base-layer.

It's Merino wool and therefore warm when it's cool, cool when it's warm and doesn't smell (even after a few days).

I plan to wear wear it once we get back from the cycle ride, as a jersey, later as a pyjama top and then again in the morning.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

My wife washed my merino base layer.
It would probably fit Gonzo now >:(.

edit: Hey check out the time I posted that!

I've got lots of Icebreaker merino. Very good stuff, I'll be wearing some tomorrow as well.  Not the boxers though, although they do make them...

I'm now hoping to be there in time to go on the ride at 1pm.  Not sure exactly what time i will be there but should be well in advance of the ride start time.

Francis and I are in a pub. We haven't met the peleton yet and it is entirely possible we might not meet them!! Our intention is to do their route backwards.

We are very hot and dehydrated, but had a great breakfast with Grub. Also saw Glosbiker by accident. Which was nice. :D
