Award shows

(1/1)

Chris S:
Is it just me?

Does anyone else find these interminable self congratulatory processions of celebs totally abhorrent?

My SIL used to be an A&E nurse. She saved many lives. She never got any awards - she made about £20,000 a year.

My Dad was a social worker in Brighton in a time when illegitimacy was a stoning offence. He helped many people through some traumatic times in their lives when nobody else cared. He never won an award.

We have such a f*cked up sense of what's important don't we?

MSeries:
Don't watch them, the ratings will fall and they'll stop.

clarion:
The NHS does do awards - one of my teams won one!

They're national and regional.  The recipients often feel valued just for getting a nomination.

I'm not - I have my headphones on my laptop. The rest of the family are watching  :-\.

I hate these.

Was just talking to a friend about the BAFTAs over MSN (excuse the lack of capital letters etc.)-

ha ha quite definitely the most boring thing since dust. you're in essence just watching a room full of other people getting mildly drunk and making *incredibly* boring acceptance speeches for two hours. catherine tate also usually makes an appearance.

In summary, I hate these.
