The Man Who Cycled the World: Amazon.co.uk: Mark Beaumont: Books

Just noticed, I bought it last Saturday when I happened across it in a bookshop in Richmond. I've only just noticed that was the first day it was available on general sale. Good timing!

Reading it at the moment. Up to the point where he's just about to leave Australia for NZ.

TT briefly mentioned in a logbook entry :)

I'm expecting it to inspire me to want to do US Coast to Coast (haven't got to that bit yet), but from what I've read I just couldn't imagine toughing it out through the Middle East or Asia like he had to. Europe possibly (I wouldn't mind doing Trafalgar1 to Trafalgar2) or, after my time there, the Americas from top to bottom (Anchorage to Ushuaia).

1. Cabo Trafalgar near Gibraltar
2. Trafalgar Square, Greater Londinium.

Bought it today and there, indeed, I am! Rather chuffed!
I described myself to him as "a fat, unfit old bugger", but he denied I was unfit. In the book I am "rather large"....a gentleman!

Surely I should be posting that thread (as a lot of us should).

Time for a new thread? "My even more tenuous claim to fame"

I'm reading the book just now and have just got to the crossing into Pakistan.

I'm enjoying it but am a bit fed up hearing about his mother! I understand that she acted as his manager but it's all a bit much, phoning his Mammy every ten minutes to find out what the exchange rate should be or where to go next.

I'm reading Greenbanks copy and for the life of me can't understand why Mark doesn't rinse his shorts and shirt out every night...
Also... why he didn't take along a water filter rather than those disgusting chlorine pills.
Still, for me its a gripping saga of derring-do which is well worth the read all round.
 Thanks Greenbank.

I got mine from Waterstones in Richmond. It was in the Travel Writing section, not the Sports section (where I'd assumed it would be).

The Waterstones website says "Medium" stock level for Wandsworth, which usually means more than a couple. Still, I've known this to lie (along with the in-shop staff).

<Mrs Nutty>

Did you try asking a staff member? Or did you just look on a couple of shelves and give up again?
