In the last couple of days there have been two withdrawals from TRAT. We knew about the first for a little while, but the second one came only a short while ago and it's left us with a problem.
The team was already on the small side, but six is
too small - the support crew numbers the same and running the event with so few people is bad for morale, publicity and crucially, fundraising. TRAT is one of the BST's main fund raisers each year and people pulling out is really unfortunate.
So we're looking to replace the two team members as soon as possible. I'm delighted that Liz's brother Phil is now riding and will be raising a minimum of £500 at short notice. What we need is another person to do the same - we're asking that the replacement riders aim to raise more than that, of course.
We're leaving London on the morning of Saturday 20th June and setting off from Land's End first thing the following day. Six days later, we'll be arriving at John O'Groats and you can fly back, get collected, take the train or come back with us on the bus, arriving in London on Sunday 28th.
You'll need a road bike and you'll need to be fit enough to do the ride. We'll supply food, accommodation, a couple of team jerseys and everything else you'll need. You'd not get a week's cycling holiday that cheap. TRAT is a genuinely amazing life experience and I'm going to be aiming to give our riders the best support I possibly can.
I'm going to blog about this and post on Cyclechat and the CTC forum. Please spread the word everywhere else that you can because the deadline for entries is next Monday. If we've not filled the eighth place by then, it's too late to get all the paperwork and other arrangements in place.
It's a perfect warm-up for LEL
