Romney Marshes Ride, Kent - Saturday 22nd August
« on: 27 July, 2009, 11:45:55 am »
Apologies to Reggie Regulator in advance and I hope (preety sure) that it will not impinge on t'other ride seeing as its in Ken'(t).

2 years ago Ian (from our lovely parish in Lewisham) did this ride Lewisham Cyclists - Romney Marshes 07
which for me is my favourite ride of all time, the combination of the weather, the people and the landscape was superb.

I and 2 others from our parish will be meeting at London Bridge station, between 8a.m. and 8.15 a.m. to get the 8.38 train to Folkestone Central, arriving at 10.17. This is a circular pootle around the coast and then through the Romney Marshes and then back on quiet roads and the canals back into Folkestone.

Lunch will most likely be at:
The Pilot Inn Dungeness - Home page - Great food, great history and great fun

Although we could head to Lydd for lunch and stop to look at the lovely church there.

Total mileage: around 60 miles and extremely FLAT.

Swimming encouraged, and most definitely a pint back in Folkestone at the end.

Wish I was....
I remember this ride from two years ago - t'were a good'un.

Unfortunately it clashes with Greg's Kings Lynn thingy   :(

But reading through your link, as Ian says,  it definitely does warrant repeating

*strokes chin whilst looking at possibilities of repeating the ride in teh bleaker months.......*

I'm planning to come along on this one, although probably in the car (2 hours 10 mins each way, argh!) as the trains aren't going to work out at all well for me.

I am attracted by the 'Flat' aspect of the ride!

This is possible for me; can get the Met to Moorgate and ride down to LB, if I get up early enough!

Just found the Met isn't running south of Harrow on the 22nd >:(

Can either go via Picc and District to Monument (slow), or just drive to Folkestone - it's motorway all the way.

I'd like to do this, but as it's only a day or two after I return from a >500-mile tour, I may not feel the same way when 22nd comes round.

Rather an early start from Saafend, I would have thought, if you're going by train. Or would you drive it?

We might stay at daughter's house in Maidstone (daughter is in Morocco).

0824 from Maidstone West to Paddock Wood would do the trick.

Thanks for the bump - the ride is still on!  :) I have been off the interwebs for a while as I am in the land of my fathers.

Alina has been cycling with me today and last week, so I can vouch for her ability to do lots of miles on an ancient heavy three-speed shopper bike!

Hi, may have a doubt for this.
Had an off on thursday on my commute to work in Ladywell Fields. Front wheel just went from under me throwing me to the tarmac. Thought I was ok apart from sone scapes and a bit bruising. Went to the hospital today as pain in ribs still painful. Had an x-ray and found I have a 3mm crack in one of my ribs.. :(
Will have to see how I get on with my commute next week to see if I am fit for a longer ride on Saturday

He's coming over from Lewes.

Have you a gpx or mm of the route?
