A song for LEL
« on: 01 August, 2009, 02:13:09 pm »

I was listening to this whilst being lashed with rain between Traquair and Eskdalemuir.

Very apt, I think.

This is just brilliant. Simon played this at LV and I think my sides nearly split (maybe that was the cheap bubbly).
Here are the lyrics for non-Raconteur fans (although it's a good record too!)

Haven't seen the sun in weeks
My skin is getting pale
Haven't got a mind left to speak
And I'm skinny as a rail

Lightbulbs are getting dim
My interests are starting to wane
I'm told it's everything a man could want
And I shouldn't complain

Conversations getting dull
There's a constant buzzing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
And I'm bored to tears

I'm bored to tears, yeah...
I'm bored to tears, yeah...

If you're looking for an accomplice
A confederate, somebody's who's helpless
You're gonna find, you'll find yourself alone

If you're looking for cut-throat
Singing above note, looking for a scapegoat
You're gonna find, you'll find yourself alone

Looking for sympathy
I can get you something
Something good, something good to eat

Haven't had a decent meal
My brain is fried
Haven't slept a week for real
My tongue is tied

Lightbulbs are getting dim
My interests are starting to wane
I'm told it's everything a man could want
And I shouldn't complain

Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
And I'm bored to tears

I'm bored to tears, yeah...
I'm bored to tears, yeah...

I always thought this one particularly appropriate:

S'e fatta mezzanotte, una notte scura scura,
S'e fatta mezzanotte, dorme la luna.
S'e fatta mezzanotte, ma era in pieno giorno,
Di colpo mi si è spenta la luce intorno.
S'e fatta mezzanotte ed io non so perché!

Ti piacevano le salsicce, mo' non le mangi più...
Ti piacevano le ciliege, mo' non le mangi più...
Ti piaceva fare all'amore a tutte quante l'ore
Ah, vita bella! Perchè non torni più?

Ti piaceva il pane caldo, ti piaceva pasta e fagioli;
Ti piaceva la tua famiglia, ti piacevano i tuoi figlioli...
Ti piaceva la festa e ballo, ti piaceva andare a cavallo,
Ah, vita bella! Perchè non torni più?

Ti piaceva la campagna, mo' non la guardi più...
Ti piaceva il profumi dei fiori, mo' non lo senti più...
Ti piaceva stare a guardare il sole quando si tuffa il mare...
Ah, vita bella! Perchè non torni più?

(which translates approx:

S'e made midnight, a dark dark night,
S'e made midnight, the moon is sleeping.
S'e made midnight, but it was in broad daylight,
Suddenly I was off the light around.
S'e made midnight and I do not know why!

Like sausages, mo 'do not eat more ...
We liked the cherries, mo 'do not eat more ...
We liked to do all the many hours
Ah, vita bella! Why not go back more?

We liked the bread hot, you like pasta and beans;
Like your family, you like your little children ...
We liked the feast and dance, you like riding,
Ah, vita bella! Why not go back more?

We liked the campaign, mo 'do not look at more ...
We liked the fragrance of flowers, mo 'I do not hear more ...
We liked to stay and watch the sun dive when the sea ...
Ah, vita bella! Why not go back more?

Arabella, please tell me you don't speak Italian as well as the better-than-highly-competent French I overheard on Friday...

I pretend.  It works to a certain extent, esp if the person you are talking to makes useful suggestions from which I can pick the word I actually mean.
I have actually studied Latin BCE/Classical Italian and Modern Spanish though which give some vocab.
And there's the German and Farsi as well.
