The Cats is a funny old place, the only reference to it I can find on teh interwebs is on purr-n-fur.org.uk!!

Edit: I wasn't trying hard enough: The Cats

Edit 2: I love the vague opening hours given in the link ^
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

It is a bit weird which is why I like it.  If you order a pickled egg Mrs Wally serves it on a little saucer with a cocktail stick and napkin!

If that's the place I think it is, about 30 years ago the then landlord was very hostile to cyclists.

Mind you, I think he met a sticky end with an HP4 inserted where the sun don't shine...

Wally is a nice enough chap, I've been there half a dozen times, always on a bike and identifiable as a cyclist.  I think he is probably older than God and very old school but he keeps a nice pint

Ramekin?

Is The Cats going to be open? I've been there a couple of times of a Saturday lunch time, every other time I've been past it, it's been closed.

*charges up mega lights battery*

This is a concern.  The only phone number I have for them doesn't work and I have never been able to find a phone number that does work.  If Wally is shut we can always slip into Maldon if we're thirsty or come up with a plan C.

Yep - e.g. the Blue Boar in Maldon is but a spit away from The Cats.

Thanks for pointing that out  ;D   From memory, vineyards do not adorn the lower slopes of the Maldon hill to which Bobb refers, in which case I won't go near it.

If you're thinking of "THAT HILL" (i.e. Market Hill) then you don't have to go up it from The Cats, you can go in via Old London road instead.  There is a hill on that route too, but that's only "That Hill" isn't it?  ;D

Market hill is steep, but it's short and sharp and over before you know it  ;).  You can practically roll from the miniroundabout at the top to the Blue Boar even before you've got round to coughing your lungs out. :demon:

It's ok, just loop around and approach Maldon from the South ->  mappy linky thingy

I'd love to.  Can't tonight though as I'm not getting out of work until after 6ish most days at the moment.

How are you anyway?  Been anywhere nice on your holidays?

'bout 8 I reckon. The cat does complain a bit though when I get in him...

Had I not have been so busy this week with dull work nonsense there would have been pictures and words by now.  Thank your lucky stars that thus far you have been spared.

EDIT: There is a thread already started which I will augment

Don't worry too much about the words & pictures.  If you make sure you tell your Essex colleagues in minute detail, I am sure they will relay the main points ;D

He didn't really you know. He's been to the Isle of Wight and just can't spell "Ventnor".
