  • a 1000km ride
  • finish in the club top 6

there will be other stuff on the way, such as SR Series, Arrows but they are not my target

Didn't do the 1000km, fractured ischium and redundancy in the same week put paid to that. After that I remade some goals, 50 points and 20AAAs. Got 55 points and 36.5 AAAs so all things considered I am pleased with my year.  Got a job that I like too,
Looks like I might finish in the club top 6 though, see what late results come in.
Didn't do a West Yorks SR, there wasn't a 300 to do and I didn't do a local calendar 200 either. 2011 however has all I need. Should be able to do a complete BRM SR series by cycling from home to the starts, furthest start is 33km away and <1km from work.

I didn't do an SR or the 1200 that was going to be my swan song; but managed 14 200s and a GdS since my off (and vowing I wasn't getting back on the bike for 6 months)

Goal for 2011 is PBP [with an aim of 2 full SRs before Paris].

Priority events -

North West Passage
Snow Roads
Kingdom Come
A West Highland DIY 600 tbc.

given that I've entered a calendar 200 in January 2011 and have my own 200 in Feb, I may as well do a 200 in Nov & Dec which would give me a 2nd YRR [which I think I said I'd never do again!] but that's very much secondary.

Get the pre-qual done for PBP
+ BCM
= Second SR series.

Got 2xSR in fact.

Ride (rather than drive) to a few more events.
Hmm, I guess 4 is a few more than 2. But that includes 3 DIY/perms. Maybe next year!

Quote
Do first perm and/or DIY.
2xDIY, 4xperms.

And the other thing.
Ah. Yes. mc1k. Well, we made a good stab at it. On the "plus" side, we now have an experience of DNF.   :'(
(I'm surprised to realise I was already eying that up over a year ago.)

Along the way, we managed to achieve some non-stated goals:  >50 points and 20 AAA points. And a lot of nice bike rides.

My audax goals for 2010 are... well, first and foremost to do some audaxes, which will be an improvement on last year, when I did none. Beyond that, if the early season goes well, I'll aim for an SR, with a view to entering PBP next year.

Achieved the first part of that goal, but didn't get the SR - I entered two 400s and a 600 and didn't manage to start any of them.

Quote
Despite my lack of condition, I reckon I could manage a 200 tomorrow at a push...

This misguided belief is part of the reason for my failure to achieve all my goals - after not having done a long ride (ie >50 miles) for well over a year, I found it much harder than I expected to get back into it. Although, to be fair, my reintroduction to audaxing was the Upper Tea 200 back in frozen March, which would have been tough going even if I'd been fully fit - plus I made it even harder for myself by making it my first audax on fixed. And by not having adequate lights.

OK, having perused the calendar, here's my shortlist of rides for 2010:

7 March Upper Tea 200
14 March Invicta Grimpeur 100
28 March Man of Kent 200
10 April Invicta 300
24 April Severn Across 400 Chalfont or 2 May Wu'ze 400
9 May Hop Garden 200
30 May Crown 100
5 June Invicta 600
27 June Fairies 300 Bethersden
3 July Kent Corners 200
15 August Tour of the Hills 110
5 Sept New Forest On & Offshore 200
2 Oct Upper Tea 200 or 9 Oct Anfractuous 200
16 Oct Mid Sussex Hilly/Hillier 100

What I actually entered/rode:

7 March Upper Tea 200
14 March Invicta Grimpeur 100
28 March Man of Kent 200
10 April Invicta 300
2 May Wu'ze 400 DNS
9 May Hop Garden 200
15 May Invicta 400 DNS
5 June Invicta 600 DNS
27 June Fairies 300 Bethersden
3 July Kent Corners 200
5 Sept New Forest On & Offshore 200

I'm pretty pleased with that for a comeback year, though disappointed I didn't get the SR. Unfortunately, all the calendar 400s and 600s I could have easily travelled to came too soon for me. Plus life and other stuff got in the way of a few I was hoping to do. Entering the Wuze 400 was definitely a case of biting off more than I could chew. Should have entered the Severn Across instead.

Also very pleased that I did most of them on fixed. The only ones I didn't do on fixed were the Invicta Grimpeur and 300 (both too lumpy - though I might do the 300 on fixed next time), and the Kent Corners 200, which I just fancied doing as a fast ride.

I'm immensely proud of VeloYellow's Audax achievements in 2010 and know he won't post so :
3 x SRs - an ACP, an Australian SR and Australian Interstate SR (4 states)
Perth-Albany-Perth 1200
Western Districts Wanderer 1000
25 audax rides (8600 kms)
Woodrup award + Frank White award (Australian multi-season 5000 awards)
Inaugural Alpine Classic Extreme 250 - some serious climbing here (within the 200 time limit) + several other "scenic" rides (we don't have AAA points)
Fleche Opperman
21000kms since he started in Feb 07 (first Audax ride was a 400 followed by the rest of the SR over 5 weeks  to qualify for PBP)

Interesting to read here how people's seasons went...

Personally I was pleased to finish the Mille Cymru 1000km ride in July, and the Mille Miglia 1600km ride in August, in a total of 7 audax rides finished ( and 4368km total distance covered). Definitely my busiest year on the bike ever, both audax and non-audax wise. Next year I intend to scale back the cycling, but still do PBP.

What I find most impressive about that is your average audax distance for 2010 is over 600km. Chapeau.

My goal this year was the Lowlands 1200 and to see if I could better Mr Larringtons record.

I did both  ;D ending the year on 80 points.
I would have liked to have got 100 but what with family issues* and 8 weeks of no riding in the summer it wasn't likely to happen.
Also unless someone has been riding a recumbent secretly, I've won the recumbent cup again

It was touch and go for a while as I had a challenger this year which helped me get out more (thanks Tim) I'll look forward to next year defending my title  ;D

2010 was my first year of riding audaxes and my main aim was The Lowlands 1200, which I completed with Rich. Anything else was secondary to that, but during the year it became clear >50 points was achievable and I managed that target with 52 points. I'd also decided to attempt a round the year and I've now just gotta do a ride in this month and December for that award.

That's funny. My average audax distance is also over 600km, never realized that. I did 200-300-400-1600. That's it. Well, there were also two DNF's and a couple DNS's, but those don't count.

Yes when you enter one or two very long rides it quickly ups the average. I too had one dnf, when I got lost in the night on the Wuze 400km, and made my own way back to the start.

My average ride was 2  :-\ but I rode 27 of 'em making 54, my best yet ;D It would have been 64 but my attempted 1000 ran into wind and out of time  :( thus messing up my intent of a double SR.
So ... SR, GdS (No4) RRTY (No4). SanFairy Ann Audax Champion. Well chuffed!

Those Russian rides look interesting but it'll be HBKH that I'll be dreaming of when I'm sitting on the turbo trainer this winter. That and an SR should do me for audaxing, my other goals are to get into the top ten fastest for the Club 10 and mibbe do the 24TT.

Well I did HBKH and enjoyed it, SR and other rides got me to 50 points which I'm pretty happy with. Also did my first audax as organiser, which worked out OK. The TTings another story - only did 3 events all year and was terrible in all of them. Entered the 24 but just didn't have the enthusiasm when the time came so I DNS'd. Next year I know I'm going to be seriously busy at work so it's just PBP as my target. And mibbe the 24.

3 audaxes this year - easter arrow (415km), kent invicta (649km) and 1001 miglia (1585km) which makes 883km average. next year overall distance will be higher, but average lower due to compulsory pbp qualification rides.
