Three Coasts 600s, June 26th, 2010. (18th June, 2011)

My local 600, enables me to stop off at The Chateau part way round to check on the horses.

Three versions this year and AAA points. Anyone else doing it ?

A plan is forming. Campsite at Sowerby Bridge provides a possible kipping opportunity at half way, as well as pre and post ride accommodation.

As I would definitely be on t'Cog, perhaps the Spurn Point variant would be a better choice as it seems to have somewhat less in the way of climbing; presumably by avoiding the Howardian Hills.

It's the perfect ride isn't it ? I may be tempted to do The Easy Option which is Spurn Head+Good Comps. Did I say easy ? all that flat riding. My Weavers Bottom is still recovering, give me some hills !!!!!

Chris, there maybe the possibility of a Friday Feast at The Chateau like Martin, Larrington and Deniece did last time.

Yes, the Spurn Head variant is the Spurn Head 400 + The Good Companions 200. The first 400 is pretty flat but with a few lumps between the M1 and Calderdale at the end. I think the route back to the control on the Spurn Head is hillier than the bit from The Chateau to the control that we did before thought that wasn't the official route and maybe a little hillier.

The Good Companions part is  a little flatter that the second part of The classic 600.

All my observations are based on doing the routes a few years ago, they may be different now.

I do recall that the Mytholmroyd -> Castleford bit of the Spurn Head was a good deal lumpier than the slightly longer variant on the 3 Coasts of old.

Also it was raining.

I'm starting to think seriously about riding this...

I'm hoping to ride the classic 600 as I've never done this ride before. I can foresee some complications with work commitments but hopefully can overcome these.

Definitely thinking of doing it. Need to see how I get on with the Spurn Head 400 on Saturday first. If I do both, they will complete my SR series in my first year of audaxing.

Right.  I'm riding this.  I'll arrange an entry and get it in the post.  I've never ridden one of Chris C's (calendar) events before.

Just need to decide whether I want to extend to 700 km by riding back to Darlo.  I may ride back anyway, as it would certainly make travelling back to Darlo a whole lot simpler.

Do the classic, the one called The Three Coasts. (Brid, Blackpool, Hollingworth Lake)

Well, my entry's in and my route sheet is here, the bike is nearly packed and I've arranged stopovers while riding south and riding north.

Who else is in, then?  I'll be camping at base, and arriving about 8 pm on Friday.

3 coasts here, as I did Spurn Head last month and I'm a bit bored of the Emley Moor run.

I too get to stop off en route - at around 380km as well.

Excellent!  We'll see if Chris can recommend any decent hostelries in Sowerby Bridge :)

Is this the best 600 in the calendar? Quite possibly!

I loved it when I did it, and I'm miffed I had to miss it this time. Might have been a bit hot though, this weekend - no?

Oh, it was boiling. I got to Glasson Dock with Mark Chambers, Mr Nesbitt and Deano, and had a colossal whitey. Mr Nesbitt was saying words, but I couldn't even focus on his face.

Soon turned it round though, thanks to the restorative power of pie and chips.

It was a bit 'ot.

But, we all survived.  We tried to interpret the language of Distant Football Roars during the England game, and I was in such a rush to catch a train that I left my Commemorative 3 Coasts Beer at Sowerby Bridge.  I'm sure Mr Nesbitt was capable of drinking it on my behalf :)

Danial Webb and Mr Nesbitt made for great company on the road, and I enjoyed the route.  The quiet lanes of East and North Yorkshire formed an interesting juxtaposition with the urban wastelands of West Yorkshire, and the flatlands of the Vale of York contrast with the hills of Bowland and the Pennines.  Blackstone Edge makes for a hell of  a kick in the tail, but once I got my gear turning and the temperature eased towards the summit, I was a lot happier.  Many thanks to Chris C and family for the hospitality, which was excellent.

Got the routesheet for this year's, this morning.

Saw what it was, hid it under a cushion, and ran away.

Eek!

Hurrah. This was my first 600 and I was a little daunted by the size of the route sheet. To qoute The Dambusters, "it's big isn't it". I hope you have elected for the classic route, The Three Coasts and not one of the others. It is an excellent route. That's the one I shall be doing

NB to avoid confusion I've changed the title of the first post to show the date for the 2011 event. Be good if replies could include the correct date for the 2011 event, June 18th.

I am thinking of doing the most excellent Border Raid the weekend before so I am likely to be still wiped out my T3C so I'll be up for a long slow one.

I have a route sheet. I have a bike. Whether I an actually going to be capable of using one to follow the other is something only time can tell.
