The U is silent in Gualbert, that's Madame Faburel next to him, Genevieve, the second to last e is pronounced, unlike the vintage car in the film.

Very useful clip, thanks. I look forward to the rest.

He's talking a lot of sense and seems to have really engaged with the issues.  That's encouraging.

His idea on the Monday morning free start is an interesting one.  I wondered what that was about but it's clear that the organisation have considered quite carefully the sorts of people who take the 84 hour option, and have added this variant to the mix.

Good interviewing by Heather too :)

The riders will have transponders attached by velcro, which can be kept as souvenirs. There will be two carpets you ride over to register your passage at the start and at controls. That is what enables the 'free start'. The limit to the size of group in that start is 20.
It means that a group of club riders could set off together at a reasonable time. Heather and I explored some of the old starts in Paris. You could set off from a number of significant points, including where Hubert Opperman started in 1931, and ride to St-Quentin to pass over the carpets.
The disadvantage to the free starts is that the finish time is fixed, so the later you set out the less time you have.

I must confess to using some shocking language last time. I hope he didn't hear me  :-[

A 4 minute interview which touches on the overall numbers of riders and on the impact of new technology. JG had more to say later about the basis for national allocations, but I'm not wanting to show things out of context.

Excellent, many thanks ESL and Heather. My favourite quote was at the end of the third one "do it for yourself", which probably sums up why I enjoy audax so much.

Does he ride the route check a few weeks before the event, I wonder ?

JG knows his onions. He rode LEL in 80 hours, with his wife Genevieve, there's a story attached to that, which is on the next instalment, I don't want to put too much out at once though.

Nice work ESL, much appreciated.

What an utterly charming fellow JG is. If only his countrymen would follow his lead ... ;)

A final film covering the campsite and touching on the Semaine Federale.

I've been waiting until we booked a hotel. There were still some rooms at the misleadingly named 'Premiere Classe' in both Elancourt and Plaisir. There is a scheme to have people stay in people's houses in St Quentin, which might work. It's possible to cancel the Premiere Classe up to the night you are staying.
