Sadly, I can't see any way of joining in this year. Mrs N. has managed to negotiate a space on the caravan site for a few extra nights, starting on Thursday. I can see that I may be spending time exploring local pubs with our son in law. He is not (yet...) very practised in the noble art of finding such hostelries by bike, and the Holly Bush is definitely too far from Woodstock...

Meanwhile...
Weather forecast for Derbyshire looks good. Winds should be light.

There's not much excuse bad news for anyone who might like to ride without gears. The usual 67" fixed gear has worked well enough for me for the last 2 years. It is, after all, a sociable event, at a pace suitable for a sexagenarian.

For those who like advance notice, here's the route. It runs anti-clockwise.

I'll try to print a few copies, but if you can do so yourself all the better.

See you all on Saturday.

Cracking weather, cracking pie, cracking ride!

Just the 5 of us from Long Eaton with Rowan joining us at the Holly Bush, an even 60 miles for me, I'm glad I decided not to pedal back to Long Eaton and go home from there now!

Cracking weather, cracking pie, cracking ride!

Just about sums it up.

Another lovely ride in good company and with fine weather.

I keep wondering about radically altering the route (especially when I'm 3/4 up Port Way into Holbrook, and then again on Drum Hill), but I think it's such a lovely combination. Maybe a shake up for next year. What do you think?

One new twist that I think we should keep, however, is the second pub stop. How thoroughly civilised. I was nearly as well-oiled as Luke's chain.

Luke, chrisn, Doosh* and Bigsybaby: thanks for a lovely day.

Rowan - good to meet you (I think I was absent the last time you came). V impressed that you made it (even if just for lunch) after Friday night's efforts!

Right - back to the maps...

(*Thanks for the warning about the straps too)

I would just like to voice the remarks already made.

I really enjoyed the day out, great company, great pork pie and great beer.

I congratulate Paul on his managerial decision to have a second stop on account of the heat.

I drank more beer on this day than I drink in a year. I found it very more ish!

This has got to be an entry in my diary in perpetuity.
O'LEL what have I done!

Likewise good to meet you all.

RE: the route- I think it's swings and roundabouts, around there you'd just be swapping one hill for another but if it's just a change of scenery you're after then it sounds like something worth looking at.
