Thanks. Your talk of adaptors is a bit skeeery, I know nothing of these things! It sounds like getting On-one to molish this might be preferable to trying to work it out myself!

Nah, we just have a BWNCWR fettling party!

That thought had crossed my mind! It is prolly about time I learned how to build wheels, and also to bake CAIK  :D
How on earth do you work out what length spokes to order?

It depends on the CAIK recipe.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

Very very interesting thread, this. I shall look anew at rhe possibility of an Alfine hub for an expedition bike for cycle camping. The proof of the pudding will, of course, be in the long-term durability, so I shall follow this with great interest.
Many thanks

I'm so tempted to get myself an 11 speed and build it up to replace my 8 speed on my Roadrat. Too ambitious for a first wheel build?

Should be easy as there's no dishing required and you can copy the lacing of your existing wheel.

Said with all the confidence of someone who's never built a wheel but read a bit about it on the Internet :D

Unlike the Rohloff, the Alfine 11 does require a small amount of dishing. The left and right spoke lengths are the same, though.

Still, my wheel built up easily. I do not use a dishing tool, preferring to simply flip the wheel in the jig to check trueness.

Having followed one of these round a part of Tasty Cheddar - I can vouch for the loveliness of this bike - despite my issues about the seatstay arrangement. Enjoy!

I can't wait for it to arrive! The chainset is out of stock until Monday, when that arrives On One will tell me where it is in their build queue  :D

I've ummed and ahhed about that Pompetamine, still umming. Like the idea that it would fit me exactly the same as my Pompino (which is my most comfy bike).

All things being equal, black bikes are faster than any other colour.

I think it's any bike I'm not currently sat on that's faster!

I thought Einstein's theory of relativity was about showing black bikes are faster, at least that's as far as my understanding goes.
I don't have a black bike BTW.

Me neither as yet. I do now have it's black SPD pedals and black mudguards though! It also has a Garmin bracket and a Cateye computer waiting for it.

Actually black is faster -  cos my bike is yellow and it's better to blame the bike than the rider, especially when I get dropped by ladies who are not younger than me.  ;)

A word of warning (not exactly complaint) - do go round your newly built OnOne when you get it with allen keys (and preferably a torque wrench), mine was very dubiously put together.

I will be undoing bolts and things and adding some of my nice anti-seize grease to them before riding it as a matter of course  :)
