I thought about the heart of England as well, so i can see that affecting the 200. I'm hoping the entries are a lot healthier now though as people start coming out of hibernation and sorting out their audax year

Indeed. A very pleasant blast out round the lanes.

And I can confirm that there is definitly CAKE at the tea stop.

Bit of a sod about the date clashes, but I did get in first (which isn't like me at all), honest.

The Essex Bridge controls at Bramshall Strawberry Farm;a very regular cake stop for me.It's 30 to 40 mins easy riding from home.

Two Battles route sheet checked only a couple of very minor alterations needed, like the wording on sign posts changed

All ready for next week

Having done the 50 with the EldestCub last year, I would absolutely recommend this one!  Unfortunately he's away at his dad's this time.  Must keep an eye open for the summer rides tho.... see how the calendar works out.

*BUMP*

I've finally got my a$$ into gear and the website is now updated with Maps, Route Sheets, GPX's and other thingy's at http://tamworthcyclingclub.blogspot.com/p/tamworth-cycling-club-audaxes.html

A dearth of entries so far (13 over the 4 events). Surely I can't still smell that badly after the Poor Student?

Can you accommodate an EOL?

If you bring an entry form, sae & a cheque along it shouldn't be a problem.  What ride are you going to do  ???

Before this morning's performance I intended to do The Towering Trees 'cause 150km is the next obvious progression from last weekend's 100km.
I'm currently reconsidering this.I'll see what occurs during the forthcoming Wednesday Wheelers sojourn then make a decision & email Datameister and yourself, not later than Thursday.

The controls on the Essex Bridge are quite close to each other. How do the cafes compare, for something more substantial and for the cake?

The first one does Oatcakes  (proper ones with cheese etc)

The second one does Bakewell PUDDINGS but does run low on cycling days.

I think the choice of controls on the Essex Bridge will be an entirely personal thing.

I did Oatcakes at the first on Friday (together with Hot Chocolate and Cake). Given that I was cycling with my wife, who was similarly refuelled, I cycled much quicker with a lighter wallet.

I could be tempted next time to forego all but the obligatory cake, and keep my powder dry until Great Haywood, but fear that the promise of toasties AND the log-burner in the little room next to the canal might lead to inescapable sleep.

Leaving the control, the 'optional history tour' to take a look at the Essex Bridge itself is an interesting and worthwhile diversion. (Especially given that I did not even know of its existence until September).

EOL should be fine, but I'd prefer a heads-up by e-mail. The only event nearing fullness is the 50.

And the 150 Towering Trees is also now route checked.

I can confirm that all of the roads are still there, and that my legs still think it's a 200!

The Towering Trees despite this

which accords with the fact that my back & neck think yesterday's 75km with the W.W.ers was 150km ::-)

I plan to bounce the Rambler's Retreat Control & go off route for approx 1.2km (at approx 70.46km, The Anchor Inn,Teanford Lane) to refuel at cafe-jogler

do I get extra time for the extra 2.4km? :demon:

Certainly not!! That would be against the spirit of the rules.

Of course, if you arrived slightly after the allowed finish time, you might find my watch had stopped a few minutes earlier........... ;)

Messed this one up already - had to come back for my shoes. Hopefully I can switch to the towering trees as I've no chance of making the start of the 2 Battles. :-\
