That's my payment sent.  Thanks for the reminder (that I'm doing this).

Is the helpers ride the whole thing or a shorter version ?

Hi YLG
I would really like to do this but my I have a rather important event on the 8th (my daughter has been selected to carry the Olympic torch that day ) so the Friday is an issue.

Can I do the route out of sequence i.e. the short last leg first as I may be able to fit that in on the Friday?

If not can I do part of it as a 600?

Cheers
Roberto

Right Robert.  Doing the event in the wrong order is cool with me in the circumstances.  Though Im sure everybody else would say that you should just do the event in the right order starting late afternoon Friday and by about 11pm you will have caught up with everybody anyway.

Do try and commandeer the olympic torch.  It would look most impressive sticking out of your pannier bag and would make a very stylish rear light.   ;)

o.k money sent so I'm in

Not sure if my daughter will let go of the torch still I can always bring along a photo

Money sent YLG.  thanks, Z.

I don't know why but I am planning to ride. I'll send the money shortly.

I could also offer a helper for the weekend if required.

Can I help without riding the helpers' ride?

I haven't been paying much attention to the forum since I'm taking some time out, but am still keen to do something at the control / help fix bikes / photograph knackered people / whatever.

I will add your name to the rota Dave, many thanks

Payment sent.

Training needs to start now.

When does the ride start? 7am on Friday?

Well it was a soggy magnificent seven who set off from Fordell at 7am this morning.

It wasnt raining as they left, but it certainly had been all night and there were many puddles.  The wind was stiff too, though the forecast is for it to die off a bit but to remain damp.

Things that Ive learned for the calendar event -

- remind everybody to bring a sleeping bag (even if sleeping in a dorm)

- remind everybody about the killer speed bumps at HQ

- remind anybody wanting to charge up GPS units or lights that they should bring an adaptor with them (power points are few and far between ie 1 in the living areas and 1 in each dorm)

I'll be back out at HQ tonight and may ride part of the route from Edinburgh tomorrow too.

ps - the fridge seemed unduly well stocked with beer when I left!!

The high wind warnings in place for the Forth and Tay bridges should ensure they remain "well ventilated".

As long as the weather forecast doesn't deteriorate too much I'm intending tagging along tomorrow from Musselburgh.

  • Aiming to be a Hyper Randonneur 2013
    • Occasional wittering
Good luck to them all - look forward to hearing more about what we've all let ourselves in for.

I can certainly pop a few four-ways in the trailer when I come up.

Clearly, the seven are going to get all the wind and rain, and the weather for the event will be glorious?!?!

I'm just back from my Kirrie - Stracathro commute. Angus Met Office reports a stiff NE breeze, which will be slowing them down more or less all the way to Banchory. But if it keeps up, they should get a tailie-assisted TTT from there to Braemar.

Martin - what time is your planned "tag"?

Im also weather dependant but I was thinking of leaving Embra and hooking up with the lads (though not if its stupid o clock).  I will speak to them tonight at HQ.

I was planning on heading over to HQ tonight for a bit about 11pm with some soup and will assess the pelotons condition then.

6am was the proposed Saturday starting time from Fordell that was being bandied about earlier this week which should put them in Musselburgh sometime between 7.10 and 7.30.

I'll probably hang about the harbour and join on when they pass if I haven't been propositioned by a passing sailor first.
