What do you think this is worth?
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:48:54 PM »
I have a 4 year old graphics workstation surplus to requirements. It was purchased 4 years ago to produce architectural walk throughs and since I've now retired I have no use for it. Looking to sell but haven't really a clue as to what it might be worth. It cost >£3000 new.
Spec:
Intel S5000xvn twin socket motherboard with 1 Xeon E5430 quad core processor on board.
4GB ECC RAM
ATI Fire GL 7600 512MB graphics card (this was >£400 new)

40GB Intel SSD Drive (added as boot drive)
80GB 10,000rpm Western Digital Raptor HD
150GB 7,400rpm Western Digital Raptor HD
Soundblaster Audigy soundcard
DVD rewriter
DVD reader
3 x Firewire ports
6 x USB
2 x Gigabit ethernet ports

All housed in a monster steel server case.

Is there a market for these things complete or would I be better splitting it up and selling the components individually on Ebay?

I think you could put a new machine with similar spec (based on benchmark tables) together for about £450 although the graphics card is not up to much by today's standards. Given that it is 4 years old, and no warranty, maybe £250 to 300?

Case might improve on this a bit.

Pretty much what I thought it might be. It still renders video faster than my latest 'best' computer (i7 Mac Mini with 8GB RAM) so I might just keep it for that purpose. (and as emergency heating!!).
