Got this from Tom Fox and thought it might be of interest( posted with tom's permission)

Dear All,
Thank you for your entries to the Moors and Wolds 400. A little problem has come up. Staxton Services is closing on June 6th for 2 weeks for refurbishing.
This means that there is no facilities from Hemsley at 176 k to Willerby at 278k.

I have contacted Audax and whilst they recommend that controls are less than 100k apart, they have agreed that the event can take place. There will be an info at Staxton Services.
This means that you will have to carry extra food and drink for this section. There is a garage en route at Ayton but this closes at 22.00hrs

I can offer an earlier start from 10.30am for those who wish and have not already booked any transport arrangements. This would ensure reaching Helmsley  before it closes down for the night! Also an earlier finish but I will be able to open my house say from 5.00am on the sunday morning.

Sorry about all this but it is in keeping with the ride as last year the bridge at Howden  was closed until the week before, the year before the road to Harthill and the year before that the road before Oldcotes was closed for railway works!!
Regards Tom Fox

Three years ago the road to Staxton was under a foot of water on the night due to a burst main.

messes up my plans a bit but I think 10.30 is probably the best plan in the circumstances.

Given that it is quite likely to be persisting it down, the fact that there isn't a convenient bus shelter but there is a perfectly competent chippy/cafe/2 pubs/a co-op in SB, and the likelihood that people are presumably going to be looking to push on to make the Staxton control before it shuts, my suspicion is that most people are fairly unlikely to want to stop for a picnic by the duck puddle....

I'm not riding but if I was I'd stop anywhere for you above all other considerations ;)
For those who think differently,it will be their loss

It is sad to see the signs of old age/too much audaxing induced memory loss in one so young ??? :-\ ;D

We would love to see you (and your cake ) but the wonder british summer weather may well  a trip to SB a pretty miserable affair. :'(

we'll see you another time

I suspect I'll have a look out the window in the morning and decide whether the weather is conducive to baking :)  I don't mind riding to SB in the rain - I've done that plenty of times :)  But it'd be a bit daft for people to stand around in the rain for cake when there's perfectly sensible places with, like, roofs and heating and stuff nearby!

Squelch! Well I am in sb with full panniers... see if anyone shows or if they've already been and gone! The floodwater on the a166 was so deep that I was pedalling underwater...

That was a wet one, lots of rain, over the BB a few times and over the knees when a car overtook me through a particularly deep bit. We managed to talk our way through one village where everything else was getting turned back.

Flatter than I expected and not too bad a route. HK and I stuck together all the way round and rode with Deniece for a few stages.

Didn't see you CL, sorry.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

So wet it was almost funny when cars passing in the opposite direction covered me in water top to toe. almost.

Earth Wind Fire Water

I'm not sure I'm going to chance it next year.

Report from the back of the pack

Couple of showers before first control ...100k....all good so far :smug:

I watched the black clouds over stamford bridge which seemed to be moving away at the same speed as I was approaching.Had a little smile to myself thinking the faster group must really have coped it :demon: :smug:

Then it hit.....bloody hell.....I didn't know it was monsoon season in Yorkshire ??? ???

Rode thro' a foot of water in Claxton, crossed a flooded A64 then waded thro' knee deep in Flaxton. The local kids were playing in the jets from the fire engines pumping out the flood.

Eventually made Helmsley ate pie and chips, rang out my socks and carried on.

Rest of the ride was dry and fairly routine.

Arrived back to apple pie and custard

We had wind last year, water this year.......can't wait for next years fire/earth

Sorry to miss crinklylion at SB.........it was under a foot of water so I kept going
