Aztec Brake Blocks

(1/2) > >>

clarion:
For a long time I was a devotee of Aztecs.  Made a mess, but were very effective.

Then I had a set which just wore smooth and were no kop for stopping.

Just recently, I had a problem finding blocks which fitted the close clearances on my tourer. In the end I just shoved in a pair of Aztecs I'd bought for something else.

I was shocked that they wore through to the metal in just three weeks! :o

Now, I know that I've been doing a lot of miles, and more hills than usual, but that is really poor.  Anyone else found this?

Tail End Charlie:
Never rated Aztecs, found them too abrasive. Either Koolstop Salmons or BBB (the type which you can just replace the inserts).

Ron-da-Valli:
I used to use Aztecs back in the 80's on my Harry Hall tourer. If I remember correctly they were a bluey grey colour and looked like hard plastic. They worked well for me on a couple of tours in Scotland. Don't think you can get that type now.

Kathy:
We wore a set of Aztecs down to the metal in >500 miles on the tandem recently.

My early 80's mtb had Aztecs at the time of purchase & I replaced these with same again.Subsequently used Koolstops
