Avid BB7 pads

Tail End Charlie:
A while ago I put an Avid BB7 disc on the front of my tourer. At first I was unimpressed, but after getting the cable adjustment better it was OK, but not really better than the pair of cantis it had replaced.
However I recently changed the pads to some gold sintered ones and the difference is immense. The stopping power is superb and I now can leave braking much later (admittedly this can cause problems at times!) and when applied hard, I have to really push myself back on the saddle. The squeal has also gone.

Highly recommended and they cost no more than normal ones. Not tested longevity (or rain!) yet. But so far nothing to say against.

PaulF:
Which brand of pads are you using?

Kim:
Interesting, I've never found correctly adjusted BB7s to lack stoppiness (and this is on recumbents, where your maximum braking force is higher), but if the alternative material makes them less squeaky in the wet, that could be well worth it...

Tail End Charlie:
The gold sintered ones are Avid's own make.

Sounds like a contamination issue of the original pads?

Biggest problem I had was the numpties at work "fingering" the shiny, shiny, disks on my commuter bike. :hand:
Especially when I changed the (heavy) standard Avid rotors to (utralightweight) blingy Alligators.  :demon:

Also - tip if anyone follows me down the lightweight rotor route - they are light (~70g each) and highly cut-away so stop really well, especially in the wet.  :smug:
They also shred pads quicker than less flamboyant rotors. :(
So, I just use them for Audax. Put standard rotors on the daily commute bike...
