Alternative to an iPad

(1/6) > >>

Paul Metcalfe:
The new iPad looks great and looks like it may be perfect as a Laptop replacement for general web surfing, on-line shopping...etc.

However, I really don't like (or approve of) the omission of USB/SD card expandability....that's just simple racketeering.

Flash memory is about £1 per GB now except when you buy it pre-installed in an iPad (where it seems to be 5x that price).

What are the best alternatives to the iPad?

Note.  My ideal solution would be the iPad and a USB/SD interface so I could plug in a memory stick full of photos and view them without importing them, as per a Windows "Removable Disk". The Retina display looks gorgeous and the iPad is so intuative.

I am merely Supplier of an iPad. I don't use one myself.
The iPad Camera Conversion Kit will allow you to download an SD card onto the iPad.

I don't want to download or import, I want to view/manipulate the images/music/documents on the external memory as supplemental storage.

Neither do I want to pay Apple for an optional accessory which should have been made redundant by the inclusion of an industry standard USB port.

I just got a 16GB SD card for £6.50, so maybe Apple's charging 10x the price.

And if you factor in what Apple pay for their memory I bet that's where they make most of their profit.

iPad 3 16GB - £399

iPad 3 64GB - £559

I suggest that Apple pay >£5 for that extra 48GB and pocket the £155 quid as pure profit.

I'd like to plug in a 500GB portable HDD (£50)
