Lead Me To The Darkside

It seems that the core muscles don't get the constant tweaking that they get from riding an upright. Could just be me though, and may just apply to trikes.

I'd guess that's generally the case, and certainly what I've found. I've been doing Pilates for years and the one time my lower back gets tired and starts overworking is when I've not been doing enough upwrong cycling (ok, mebbe I should also be doing more Pilates)
Other nuisance on a 'bent - despite riding one for 3 or 4 years now - is I can't get my heart rate up to do much useful CV work - seems to be the slightly different muscle use and more open position. I can work hard and lose lard fairly easily on the mtb, but not on the 'bent. OTOH any strength gains on the 'bent seem to transfer to the upright, so it's not all bad..

I've found the kid trailer probably gets more space than the bent. But then I never found the bent got a resounding increase in space anyway. I assumed it was a height thing, and only the really short bents got loads of space. Maybe because the driver gets worried if they think it might hide below their nearside window, and mine doesn't activate that.

I know what you mean; I have to train up the legs before I can train the CV system on the bent. But like you say it then transfers well onto the upright.

I think it's a 'weird' thing. The SMGT is by no means low, and gets consistently more room than a DF. Until I stick a pair of Ortliebs on the back (which makes it instantly recognisable as 'bicycle').

Ah,yeah, no panniers on my bike, just a tail box with an evil dinotte 400l on it.

I've been to visit the Andy Allsopp Home For Orphaned Recumbents.
He tutored me in riding, and got me sorted out on the Streetmachine, which feels comfortable. He noticed I didn't sit straight, and speculated I had one leg slightly shorter than the other. When these were compensated for, I think I did OK.
We got to meet MrsAndy. Again. But the first time was at Brighton after an overnight ride, so we were a bit zombified. Fun to meet the weans as well - they are ultra-cute!
Andy offered that I could borrow the SMGTe for a bit, but I need time to think about things. I reckon it could be a possibility, and I could see myself on a Grasshopper fx ere long if I get a decent compensation payout.
Right now, my shoulder hurts - from riding to Bromley & back on the upwrong as much as the recumbenteering - so I need to work out next steps...
