Gainsborough shower drip
« on: July 24, 2012, 08:36:04 PM »
I haz a drip.

It comes from the showerhead when the shower is turned off, and looks to all intents and purposes like the shut-off valve is weak.

The shower is a Gainsborough 10.5 Delux (a B&Q special) out of warranty; the drip is such that the cubicle never gets dry and I'm getting some water penetration problems.  Wah!

There's nothing obvious to adjust in the guts.  I've tried reducing water pressure.  Any ideas?
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Shower doctor. Here

Describe the problem and they should be able to diagnose then offer the requisite part.

Excellent service from that place.   My Gainsborough was dripping a bit so I just cranked the knob shut a bit tighter.  In the end the control knob shattered last week.   They had a replacement (for an 18 year old shower!)  Quick delivery as well.

The remedy is often "replace cartridge", which hasn't been available for a decade.  Mira showers don't work for any longer than Showerforce and other cheap brands, but at least Mira support their older stuff with spares.  It's academic with our water though; everything is scaled up and unserviceable after 1 year or so so the whole shower unit always has to be swapped out when it goes wrong.
