Mobile wielding bus driver

Hadn't mentioned it on here before but last month I was fortunate enough to be a bit slow moving off from some lights in the west end. Had I been my usual 'off on amber' self I may well have been hit by a No 6 bus whose driver was paying more attention to his phone than to the traffic lights. Happily I was able to get the number and a note to the operator followed.  It took a while (and for some reason they seem to have taken 3 days to receive my email), but I did get a positive response...

Dear Redlight

I am writing in reply to your email of 2 July 2012 to London Buses concerning an incident you witnessed involving a Route 6 bus on 29 June 2012.

Our policy is to prohibit the use of mobile phones by drivers, whilst on a journey. Staffs are regularly reminded of their obligations to obey Company rules in this respect, as the practice is illegal and dangerous as it causes a distraction. You can be assured that appropriate action will be taken against the driver concerned. In addition a reminder will be issued to all drivers on this particular subject.

I should like to thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.

Yours sincerely

Well done for bothering, Redlight. Although the driver will probably just get told of your complaint, I suspect    it'll lie on his file so that if there are further complaints from other MOPs the company will have the ammo to act.

I don't know whether London Buses have internal CCTV but if they do I'd expect them to take such a report very seriously and have reviewed the footage.

If that had been Lothian Buses they'd check the CCTV and he'd be out on his ear. I love Lothian Buses. Except the 14.

It's interesting that "Our policy is to prohibit the use of mobile phones by drivers, whilst on a journey." Surely the law prohibits the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

They might mean that the drivers sholdn;t have a phone on their person at all, although they should say so properly

Jumping lights on a phone in a bus is seriously bang out of order and should be dealt with as such

Their policy might be stricter than the law.

My employers have a 'no mobile use while driving, not even a car kit' policy. It's a sackable offense.

It's up to a company to set their own policies.

This topic pops up on my tapatalk view and I consistently see it as 'mobile welding bus driver' which tends to excite interest.
(Not to detract from the purpose of the thread.)
