Is there any obvious wear indicator on the Brompton rims?

Just realised that I'm still on the original front rim of a 13 year old bike, and should probably pay attention to this...

Not on the older U-section rims. There were some intermediate age rims with external grooves that disappeared. I think the current rims expose the bottom of the box section when worn before the rim hook blows apart.

You have to check them with a straight edge and a furrowed brow. "Yeeeah, loads of life left in that" vs "A bit worn, better replace that before it's too late" depending on attitude and tongue angle.

My 2 year old rear rim blew apart but was still rideable, although the braking was a little odd. I think the front is about to go too.

I put this down to the continual stop / start nature of my ride through town, even though I went through three sets of salmon pads and kept the bike clean by religiously washing it on a Sunday.
