That sounds like a rather good idea!  Thanks for the heads up.  I think we may well troll along.

Oh I was just thinking about Emily the other day! I had no idea she had gone off on these adventures. Shame I won't be able to be in London, can someone report back here? Thanks for this, glad I spotted it on one of my infrequent forum stop-offs :-)

Do we have a quorum?  :D

Besides, it wouldn't be audacious if success were guaranteed.

Sadly I won't at this now. I've just had a gruelling 50-miler in very strong winds and I'm knackered.

It's improbable, I know, but is this cyclist at 29:22 our lovely Emily? It doesn't quite look like her but then it just might be.

Also gets a mention in this obligatory Grauniad link.

I used to see her pretty regularly when I worked in central London; not so much now I'm in the wilds of the east.

Oh, my God.

For someone like Emily to write that makes me feel ...

Lots of things.  Affirmed.  Comforted.  En-Courage-d.

Having a bit of a cry now.

Thanks Emily.

That post about Balochistan is really thought-provoking.

I feel so lucky to live here.  Even though our government is a bunch of despicable fucks, and there's mad knife crime and drugs scything our young people off, it's comparatively extremely safe, even for women.

Yes, a government of despicable fucks is better than no government.

I confess I'd never really thought about the risks we take ourselves putting other people in danger in order that we can do these things - at least not in that way, it's obvious in some other circumstances such as mountain rescue. I could kind of relate to what she said about staying in Quetta and visiting the guarded hotel, as there were places like that when we were in Bangalore, even before the Mumbai attack. In fact, there were bombs in Blr too, part of India's inter-communal terrorism, but no one was killed. Anyway, those luxury hotels are popular with Indians too as a sort of shopping destination, but the whole thing is very claustrophobic (in both senses). Must be fifty times as bad in a "terror hotspot".
