Burger me!

"I'm not interested in food. I eat when I'm hungry; it's just fuel to me."

Thus spake an acquaintance at a recent breakfast meeting. Is this irretrievable, like the gastronomic equivalent of tone deafness?

No: I read that as a timely warning and reminder.  I feel sometimes, that I slip into the trap of yakking on too much about foodie stuff, and your friend is absolutely right, in a way.  At the end of the day it all dissolves into a mush in your stomach.

Having said that, though, there is the issue of looking after your health through what you eat, and of enjoying, looking forward to, meals instead of merely enduring them (as I used to do, when I was a child).

I have some sympathy. I am the only one in my household that cooks or prepares meals. Sometimes I get so utterly fed up of doing it I wish that it could all be dealt with by a small pill or something. But not all the time, that would be wrong.
