Seat post

My 'new' to me Moulton APB has a Thorn seat post and a distance tube about 100mm long in the seat tube. Both are aluminium.
I took the seat post out while I was fiddling with other parts. It was stiff to remove and now it is stiff to get back in.
I have cleaned the seat post thoroughly and the distance tube as best I can.
Is there an easy way to get it in?
Is it ok to grease it? or thin oil, perhaps?
Any advice very welcome. It is a long time since I had a problem like this and I cannot remember the cure.

Grease the shim and the seatpost. It doesn’t take much corrosion to give negative clearances.

Thanks you put me on the right path.
It still wouldn't go in far enough and shining a torch down the seat  tube it is pretty rusty.
I decided to pull the distance collar and sure enough there was more rust at the bottom end making it smaller. I'll clean it up tomorrow and the seat tube, as well. Thanks for the help. (Again! :))
