The fixing-bikes-for-refugees group I volunteer with will shortly be having a clearout of their accumulation of wheels (and other bits). I could ask them to keep an eye out for 26" rims/wheels if you like? There won't be anything fancy, but if you're in just-getting-it-back-on-the-road territory, maybe that's not so important to you right now?

FWIW, I just did a couple of 26" wheel builds using parts from Spa Cycles. The filter doesn't pick them up on a search for size, so you have to click into each one, but I think they still have stock of a few different models: https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m20b0s116p0/Wheel-Components/Rims

Thanks! That would be super.

I need the rear wheel to be bomb-proof as it's going to be used for towing the trailer. But it doesn't need to be pretty.

Of course, I've rust realised that the hub I pounced on after 3 days of searching for a rim-brake, 36 hole, 9 speed is 130mm OLN, and I think the Spesh Hard Rock is a 135mm, so I'm back to scouring the internets.

If anyone finds themselves in need of a 130mm OLN 8/9 speed rear hub, I have a brand new one. Unless I can get Spa to swap it for me.

If it is a loose bearing hub, you can just add a 5mm spacer on the LH side and adjust the axle to protrude 2mm equally on each side. I have done that several times but doesn’t work on cartridge bearing hubs.

It measures at 138, which I suspect reflects some of the battering he's taken. I think I'd be better off getting a 135mm hub.

We've got an unused SRAM PC951 chain, free to a good home.
Yes please! No rush, though. I need to build wheels and stuff.

OK, next time we visit Mrs P's brother (near Forfar) I'll try to remember to drop it off on the way past.

Right, we're heading darn sarf tomorrow. I don't know what time, but if if you're not in I'll shove it through your letterbox.

We have one of those annoying external letterboxes, but our only plans are to be in Kinnaber at 1240 for low tide. If we're not in, chuck it over the fence near the hedge so it gets a soft landing.

I'd use the Pompino.  I've towed 30kg of twins in a trailer uphill on the fixed - my only concern would be the downhills (but the trailer stops your rear wheel from rising so...).

I want to have functioning rear brakes that don't involved my legs. That said, it's so hard to get hold of the nuts you need for towing on fixed these days!

Late to the party, but there was another option.

I've got a bike like that which I use as a beater and trailer hauler. The easiest, cheapest option is to donate it to your local bike scheme and buy one from them to match your needs. Likely cost, £70-£80. Run into the ground with zero maintenance, rinse and repeat. Currently almost three years into the current one, it's about time to change.

This would be an option if I didn't get sentimental about my bikes  ;D.

I think I have all the parts either ready to go or on their way, so I shall make a start, soon. I need to check the headset, as it was a bit rough when I gave him a clean. The front wheel might need a rebuild on new spokes, although the hub seems fine -- the spokes have developed a weird frosted effect, although the wheel's true. New rim and spokes on their way from SJS -- it's been a while since I built a wheel, but I'm sure it will all come back to me.

Waiting for some brakes to arrive, but I got him set up with the old brakes in the meantime.
