Title: Orcas
Post by: Asterix, the former Gaul. on 02 August, 2023, 06:32:51 pm
Apparently when they break your boat it’s just them being playful!

We used to see them when sailing among the Western Isles but they weren’t common and kept their distance mostly. Except one time in quite calm weather we were cruising along under sail when suddenly we heard heavy breathing like a bull or a cow. When we looked over the side we saw the animal swimming alongside quite calmly. For about an hour it stayed with us, sometimes swimming very fast ahead then dropping back and catching up. Then someone had the idea of playing it some music and turned on the radio in the saloon. We knew the sound would transmit into the water through the glass fibre hull. For some reason the station was playing some bagpipe music. The orca suddenly disappeared.

And they didn't start attacking boats until after this date?
Hmmm....
