FNRttC to Brighton - November 27th
« on: 01 November, 2009, 02:16:13 pm »
Quoted from elsewhere:

"First the obvious - I reserve the right to cancel this one if there is a risk of ice. I love the idea of people coming to these rides from Hull and Swansea, but do bear this in mind before throwing wodges at what used to be called British Rail.

We'll be going through Chipstead, and down Lonesome Lane, and then going under Gatwick to the Cabin Cafe. After that it's a hop over the Weald toward Balcombe, and then, depending on time, temperature and the condition of the riders, down the cycle path beside the A23 or across to the Beacon.

We need 25 riders on the night to make it work for the Cabin Cafe."

I should be fully recovered by then. ;D

Since most of the rides so far this year have been at their maximum number of people, I wonder how many will want to come out in November.  The weather wont worry me, I commute in whatever the conditions are around the calendar, but I realise that many people take a less confrontational approach to sub-optimal climatic conditions.

I'll be surprised if twenty five people aren't easily achieved.  Of the rides I've been on, most have been maxed out.  I think the only one which wasn't at that level was the wet one in June, when the numbers who ultimately turned up was only in the mid-forties, down from almost seventy originally penciled in to do the ride.
Actually, it is rocket science.

I've added my name to the list; even considering riding back (first time ever) and joining the CC sillyness planned for Saturday.

I think Simon is up to 22 already, so I don't believe 25 is going to be a problem. ;D

The November FNRttC was always on my list for 2009 rides and I can't believe it's come round ...where has the year gone.  This will be my first fnrttc and hopefully will be riding in the company of Hummers and Swarm_Catcher and maybe some more of the Faccomb4 if I can twist their arms.  The loose plan at the mo is to get the train up from Pompey, although Hummer's may yet persuade me to ride up, ride to Brighton and then ride back to pompey ....probably following a route just north of the Downs.

Yep, as the 'moister suggests, I am hoping to be on this one although the diary may prevent me riding up (as I am in town on that day) and Mrs H may want to meet me in Brighton for some Christmas shopping.

Either way, I'll be keen to do the ride itself.

I'm 75% "in".

What do I do?  How do I register if my "in-ness" shifts to 100%?

Where are the details?:

- Start location
- Start time
- and so on

Mail fnrttc at yahoo.co.uk

Provide full name, mobile number and CTC membership number (if you have one).

Start is Hyde Park Corner, midnight Friday (ie 23.59 on the Friday).

My "in-ness" shifted to 100% so I did all the above.

Although realistically you should be there sometime around 2330, probably 2340 at the latest.  Simon does a short safety briefing, and likes to check that everyone is there.  If you turned up at midnight exactly, at a minimum you would get a very dirty look!

Any time before this is not wasted, as it's valuable cake eating and chatting to people time (as well as emergency fetling !)

I'll be coming in from Waterloo Stn so it should only take 10-15 mins to get to start.

Do people just turn up and hang around (in late November!!) or is there a warm cafe to rendezvous at?

Forget that. Have we got a Forummer who's avatar shows just a torso that'll slot inbetween Lee's and TimO's avatars?!!

Lee has to be on top of course.
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

People just turn up around the Wellington Arch in the centre of Hyde Park Corner, probably from around 1115 onwards.  There isn't anywhere close that's open at that time of night (which I'm aware of).

Click for overviewness

Typically people congregate around the western side, but if there was a howling gale or driven rain, I imagine they would move to the other side!

You would find people at Victoria Station from 11:00 onwards sort of opposite platform 12 near the cash machines. I tend to get a coffee there before heading up to HPC about   11:30.

or the mead bearer (to go with the cake).  No, don't give me that  sign.  This is a vintage 2004 homebrew which has been quoted as being better than the gold award winning mead at the national honey show.  I know, that doesn't mean much either.

If you're still considering, then get in quick. Simon is nearly on the point of closing entries.

Pretty impressive for a late November overnight ride.
