Title: Headstones
Post by: PaulR on 01 December, 2011, 10:41:40 pm
We recently visited a graveyard in Sussex which included this cheerful number.  I wonder who was the afflicted one out of the couple.

Nice one Peewiters. I often find myself drawn to graveyards on rides, for the contemplation. Gazing at the memories of those who have passed on. You begin to wonder at the lives they led. Some leave you sad at the short time they had on this earth. Some had incredible names too. Others may find it maudlin, but I find it enervating.

Here's my Uncle Stan's grave, which I found by happenchance when trying to locate my Granny's in a graveyard near to Piddinghoe. He was only 44.

Not the famous one; he was Cuthbert and he's buried under St Paul's.

Oooooooohhhh, spooky! And yours is more atmospherically spookier than mine too.

My little chap did have his right arm raised, but I got rid of that because it interfered with the pic (looked odd).

This phone photo hasn't come out too well, but you might be able to see what I see.

Do you see the face? Or do you just see a coat of arms?

Some from the local historic graveyard.. The light was great and I had some time to kill, but only the phone with me.

Somewhere here is the grave of the inventor of the self-adhesive postage stamp.

With no disrespect to the family, but I wonder if he was totally blame free. From what I read about the first white people to this island, lets just say they were not all that nice – Selknam Genocide where people were paid per dead.
