Those of us who are old enough will recall her in possibly the most brilliant sitcom of the 1960s, Till Death Us Do Part. Having read her obituary, I must have first seen her in what as possibly my first visit to the cinema (the Ritz Cinema, Billericay) to see the utterly dreadful "Summer Holiday".

I have possibly the most tenuous claim to fame ever in that my wife and her sisters attended a theatre performance in London some years ago and found themselves sitting alongside Una Stubbs and another famous actress of a similar age, who were obviously great chums. I've forgotten the name of the other actress. Edit: Julia McKenzie.

She once spat in my face.

Less excitingly, I was on the front row during a performance of, I think, The Taming of the Shrew at the Crucible in Sheffalump and I don't think she meant it personally.

I only remember her from Worzel Gummidge  ;D

Among the obituaries, I discovered there is an urban legend attached to her, which elevates her in my eyes  :D

She did very well for someone namechecked in a Half Man Half Biscuit song.  She knocked Hannu Mikkola off the top spot of the League of Those No Longer In Need Of Season Tickets.

I think I know the legend of which you speak.
