Knitting's a bit like riding hard on upright bikes.  Surprisingly fun, great sense of achievement, and plays havoc with your wrists and elbows.

I try to avoid doing either too often.

Wondering what's up with my ISP.  Nothing on their status page, nothing on the BT exchange status site... but no connection either (ADSL is synced, PPPoA not connected).  And now I'm at work so, modulo actually hearing something  from them (hah!), I have no idea if it's been fixed until I get home tonight.  Wondering if it might be AAISP time...

Babbage-engine!  It has just taken you ninety seconds to switch from uk.rec.sheds to uk.rec.waterways.  This lack of performance is unacceptable and the River Stort is not far away.  Are you full of jam or something?  Or what?  Prepare for a rinsing.  Dere Thought Polis, yes, I know it smells funny and there is a duck where the CPU used to be, but...

Also I feel like DETH and would like to go home.

Sigh.... office TV purchased some 3 years ago off ebay....I know you have had quite a lot of use but why, oh why did you have to "blow up" on Monday only 2 hours before the start of ITV4's coverage of TdF??? I liked you: you worked well.

So, off to Tescos I went and a replacement was purchased after deciding the smoke coming from the back of the set was terminal. The new telly has a DVD and built in freeview...all good...however, the built in Freeview is CRAP and will only pick up the BBC channels and NOT ITV4.   >:(

Luckly, I have plugged an old Freeview box into the back and now can get ITV4 so my afternoons will be taken up watching the Tour....sorry, working really hard.  ;)

Now, all I need to do is remove my ginger cat from infront of the telly! Move puss!

I don't mean to complain, but ....

No that's a total lie.  Am very much going to complain.

Cycling really helps my neck.  It felt almost normal last week.  Now I am moving like a robot again, and it really hurts.  And I am not allowed to cycle because my foot hurts.  And my knees hurt.  And I am so, so sick of things hurting the whole damn time.  Not fair.  It's six months now, and that is quite enough, thank you.

I'm even sick of the sound of my own voice whining about things hurting.   :hand:

That usually means the BRAS has vanished, so no route for the PPP connection to your ISP.  Often due to unanticipated planned maintenance by our-favourite-telco.  AAISP's monitoring detects all lines on a BRAS going offline simultaneously on an alarmingly frequent basis (see their status page or twitter feed), only some of which are related to published planned engineering work.

AAISP won't solve this problem (unless you get a redundant connection via Be or Three, of course), but will at least give you some idea of what happened.

Our-favourite-telco did eventually 'fess up to a problem in my area.  No meaningful information about what happened -- you may well be right about the BRAS -- but I'm somewhat hopefull that things might be working when I get home.  We'll see...

Colleague when you ask me to do a 2 hour 'teaching' session for M.Ed students on assistive technology for dyslexia trainees.  Do you think it might have been helpful to tell me more than 5 mins before we started that they're all primary school specialists even though we planned it for a HE level?

I am a HE specialist.  My students are legally adults!  I get to assume my students aren't fick!  I get to assume my students have basic literacy and numeracy even if they use technology to achieve that!

Your students are children! Primary school dyslexics can be of all severities and 'intelligences'...  Totally different infrastructure that you operate in too.

Argh!  II would have planned things very differently had I known the correct level to aim at!

After PopMaster, Ken Bruce plays a 'long song'.  OK, not as long as Radcliffe & Maconie playing 'Echoes' as part of The Chain, which I thought was a bold piece of broadcasting, but something classic and a bit bigger than the usual 3 min slot.  Something like Stairway to Heaven, or a bit of War of the Worlds, or a Pink Floyd track (though never yet Echoes ;D ).

I'll even put up with Eric Clapton's Layla with the full coda on the odd occasion.

But it is not an excuse to play fucking November fucking Rain by Gonks & Arses.

It just isn't.

EDF... the call centre worker was very very nice and did what I wanted her to do very professionally, so pleased with that end of your service.

However, did I really need to be on hold for 15 mins before your had a call centre staff member free to take my call? At least, looking on the bright side, its a free call.

My girlfriend and her 2 year old stay over most weekends from Friday night to Sunday pm.  This weekend she decided to stay until Monday ()  However, late in the evening after 2 year old had gone to bed and we were starting to contemplate an early night, my pregnant neighbour arrived on the doorstep seeking a lift to the hospital because her hubby was several hours away and she'd run out of credit on her phone to call for help.

So my GF takes her to hospital, with lots of towels on the seat of my brand new car, and I head over to Mrs Pregnant's house to babysit her kids until hubby gets back, and MiniQ babysits GF's littlun.

Result - I arrived home 1am and passed out.  GF was already home and in the land of nod.  Early night ruined >:(

No news of baby yet, but it's #6 apparently so I should think it'll come out like a well buttered sprout on boxing day.
