One of those odd geographical coincidences.  With LEL cancelled and no guarantee that we will be able to travel freely next year its now my number one objective for 2021, probably in early July once CET Junior 2 has taken his A levels.

Might resurrect my plan to cycle to Whitchurch (all of them) and Eglwyswen (which is Whitchurch in Cymraeg).  That way, if travel restrictions continue I might still have goal to aim at.  Its 1300km and a bit and lumpy as it goes through Wessex twice, Dartmoor twice and into darkest Pembrokeshire.  I can set it up as a perm route if people are interested, this time with proper GPS tracks.

I have set it up.  Final distance is 1361km and its available for entry via Paypal, although you can't ride it at the moment as you aren't allowed to visit most of South Wales unless you have a good reason.  There is a GPS track on RidewithGPS.  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34181315

Um, if Eglwyswen counts as a Whitchurch then

the good news is I've failed to find an Eaglais Gheal or Eaglais Ban

Well that adds a lot of distance.  I googled difference between kirk and church and got the answer

When used as nouns, church means a Christian house of worship,  whereas kirk means a church

So that cleared that up obviously

What about whitechapel?

Kirk is Kirche, is Kyrka, is Kerk, is Church
All from the same proto-germanic root word and adapted for their language with limited variation in meaning.

Chapel? Well depends where you are, that does vary; believe it's a specific part of a church in England, a non-conformists church in england, while in Scotland it's used to identify a catholic church.

There is also a Whitkirk in Leeds, and Little Stanmore in Middlesex is also known as Whitchurch.  Eglwyswen does have the useful job of distracting riders from the A40 and sending them through darkest Pembrokeshire instead.  All these would, of course, disrupt the rather pleasing bird shape and also add some days to the route making the number of brownie points required to do it increase exponentially.

Reminds me that somewhere I have a route I planned to go from Essen to Essen, via Essen and Essen... I wonder what I'll eat along the way...

This doesn't really belong in Audax, but it's a lovely concept, and have a read of the "Directions":

"
Trains from Dresden (Germany) or Decin (Czechia) stop at Schöna station. Take the ferry (50m from the station, €2.50) across the river Elbe/Labe. You will find yourself in Hrensko. Follow the road into the woods. It is only 11.6km long ride.

The LRM calendar for 2021 is published,
as well as the ACP calendar, for shorter events.

Thank, Tal

Not sure how far we can travel next year.  Let's see how the next few months go.

Best

Before everything went wrong my big goal for 2020 was this 1000km around Lake Biwa and back; now hoping I can do the 2021 edition.

Not planning any overseas trip, as annual travel insurance no longer includes covid cancellation cover.

Riding in Japan looks interesting..

From the Lake Biwa webpage...
注意 Cautions

Heavy traffic are expected at major route (national route). Please watch very carefully at city area where cars tends to go into shops and restaurants along the road. Please make much time for your riding plan. Please have enough sheep time, it will be very dangerous to ride without proper sheep

 ;)

Improper sheep are extremely dangerous.
