When we did it a couple of years ago the weather was perfect.

It was pretty good on most of the recce runs, too - though there was a very very wet ride up there.

I'd quite like to do this. It'll be night time, so I won't be able to see the hills.

How about this route?

It can't be that hilly...even I managed it without resorting to the 24" gear.

I am tracking tickets. Loadsa is working on new ventures not sure how he will be fixed atm. I could bring car but train makes more sense really. Course on each of the two train sets East Coast use,  bike storage is at the opposite ends of each type of train....strewth.

Can you not offer someone a lift & share petrol costs?

Allways do. Rollrights Banbury Brum tickets have been burned. Trains will still be involved with Tan Hill thinks.

If we went that way, we could leave our calling card at the door of the Thwaite Arms in Horsehouse.   I'm sure I could devise something appropriate for the charming gentleman that runs the place.

In your experience, what time do you arrive at Tan ill?

We have a group ride planned for the following morning at 7am, starting from toytown - there may be a scheduling clash unless I cycle faster.

I don't think I ever actually got to Tan Hill.  I remember doing SCIENCE with some sheep, and next thing I know I was sliding along at speeds in excess of R17 on gravel.

You were there in body, if not in spirit.....  I arrived to find you asleep on one of the pews they had for seating, lying perfectly straight,  looking like a vampire waiting for dusk....

Pretty certain this was taken in the pub car park: -

Especially as I don't think the photographer (Wow) did the COR section.

I did indeed take that photo in the pub car park. After the pub I headed off to Kirkby Stephen.

Only if you need to go back to Darlington after the pub.

The COR is almost entirely downhill, and although terrifying, recedes rapidly in the memory, fading in the blur of excellent-ness that is this ride.

You won't be able to do both. The earliest they start serving breakfast (officially) is 8.30 am, and the first riders were there at about 9.45. Though that was starting from York.

It's fabulous. It was resurfaced a couple of years ago, which did away with the huge potholes.

The people have spoken - the start will be Northallerton.

I'll update the OP. Let me know if you're planning to attend, wavering, or defintely can't come.

I'll have to think about a route - I'm assuming everyone is happy with no more than 60 miles, at least one sheltered overnight stop with coffee and toilets and stuff, and some hills in the second half (can't really do much about the latter).

I'm in for this too please.  I have a mental image of it being a lovely summer ride to look forward to.  Shh.

Depending on fitness and weather, I might head south through the dales after a nap on the Saturday too.

Oh yes, absolutely splendid.  The ride up from York was a bit of a slog last year, on account of all the flat, but you literally sail up the hills, and the ride back to Darlo isn't scary at all...   ;D
