Allow me to supply some detail. I can confirm that my pint of Westons Old Rosie and pint of Aspalls caused me to have a thumping headache this morning. Shame as both pints were very nice!!!

I am leading my penultimate Witham Cycling guided ride to The Leather Bottle, Pleshey via a convoluted route (as usual).  The round trip will be 31 miles.  If you would like to set off with us feel free to meet up at the duck pond on Witham's River Walk, I plan to leave at 7pm.  Failing that it would be lovely to meet up at the pub, I'm guessing we will be there by 9pm.

Been ages since I've met up, or been in Pleshey.

I have flat tyres though, and my fitness has gone down the drain.    Could you provide me a taxi from southend area so I can join you for a pint before a taxi ride home?

Nutty -if the Outlaws (who live in Southend) weren't on holiday I'd have told them to taxi you up here. It would be great to see you again.

Auntie Helen - Work?!?  Sort yourself out!

OD - it would be great to meet up for one last time before I flee this downtrodden area, but again forces conspire against me and I find that tonight I am otherwise engaged.

Do you have an advanced schedule of destinations as you used to?

Plan A is going to be a bit ambitious given the audience. Plan B is The Compasses at Littlely Green. Plan C is The Square & Compasses if Plan B looks overly ambitious.

It looks suspiciously like Tomsk SLEPT on that ride.  :o

I wonder if anyone caught him breathing, too?

I'm suspecting that catching 40 winks while letting the others catch up was Tom's cunning excuse for doing PBP with full camping equipment

I'm back.....and I've caught up on my sleep, [yes really]. Thanks for the semi-serious congrats etc. I surprised myself by catching a few 80 hour 'Vedettes', having started 2 hours later with the 90 hour 'Tourists'. I rode home over 2 days with Teethgrinder and Brian Taylor from Billericay [notp]; I suspect I now have massive stamina after the EPIC, but when I go out on the Allez tomorrow I reckon I'll be incredibly slow!

Anybody out this Wednesday? My beer muscles haven't had much of a work-out en France.

I'm posting here as this thread is a useful depository for all things Essex ...

On Thursday morning (1st September) me and Twinkle Toes are going to cycle from Witham to Marks Tey, get the train to Sudbury and then ride home via Specialities Tearooms at Stisted.  I've always fancied going over the Chappel viaduct and TT wants to take some pictures to enter a photography competition.

We are aiming for the 1001 hrs out of Mark Tey, hopefully Tina the Tandem will be allowed on the train, which I think is just a single carriage.  Anyone fancy tagging along???

Regarding both of the above  events,  I am Up North for the week, so won't make it to either the MEMWNS (although I will be cycling out in Wednesday night for a MEMWNS-on-tour outing, probably to here.  Whilst it would be a mere jaunt for TEH TOMSKINATOR at ~800km round trip from Dunmow, I suspect the rest of the Dunmow posse might not want to ride that far  ;D

Regarding tomorrow's ride, Steve - We [famille] will be walking stage #2 of the Essex way, Willingale to the Leather Bottle at Pleshey - otherwise I'd be along like a shot.

Oaky, I'm in recovery mode still - just a 200km perm planned for Saturday.

Next week I've 'Book Club', so in a fortnight's time I expect a full turn-out?

Have you got anywhere in mind? I might be available - easier if it's somewhere south of Chelmsford e.g. Stock Hoop or Viper...
