He's heading east at the moment, but should get a decent tail wind when he turns left to head towards Hull.

Go Steve!

98 tracker miles to Kings Lynn and Google suggests an additional 106 miles to Brough. Gonna be another long day.

Go some more Steve!

He's heading for Sutton Bridge. On one occasion when I cycled over that, I had to wait about half-an-hour for a couple of boats to go through. Steve commented on my ride report that he had crossed it dozens of times and had never been held up by it swinging for a boat.

No problem there, but the most direct route to the Humber Bridge is via Horncastle, after which he would have to climb up to about 500' into the range of hills which separates East Anglia from the North of England. There may be a flatter route, and I'm sure Steve will know it if there is, but it's beyond my experience.

I did that section in the early hours on a Dinner Dart in (I think) 2009.  It is a long and very gradual climb which shouldn't hold him up too much with a tailwind behind him.  After that it's pretty much flat or downhill all the way to the Humber Bridge.  And Steve won't have the problems of nighttime black ice that I had.

The Wolds are quite pleasant, nothing that will worry Steve. IIRC there is a nasty (but short) climb between Brigg & Barton.

Looks more like a route through Market Rasen.  Good to go through racing towns when Cheltenham is on!  Apart from his regular rides past Towcester he must be collecting a fair number of racing towns including Newmarket, Newbury, etc.  Suspect he won't go past Goodwood, Bath or Hexham (alll hilltop courses)

I ws going in the opposite direction. Caistor is a challenge (1 in 6?) but, from memory, I spent about 25 miles above 400 feet and didn't pass any shops or tea rooms the whole time. I had full camping gear as well.

Ah, I remember coming down those roads on the Saturday evening of a 400km event, ooh, about 30yrs ago now, in company with, among others, the late Fliss Beard.
It was a long, rapid descent to Barton, and the roads were quite empty of other traffic; so much so that we joked that some unexpected natural disaster must have occurred, wiping out the population. In fact, I believe everyone but us was indoors watching Bob Geldof's 'Live Aid' concert on t'telly.

I expect it was pretty well deserted when Steve swept through this evening. Later in the year the roads ought to be lined with fans watching history being made  ;)

theres a couple in caistor, mansgate is the steepest, then the bypass and the high street, its local to me, he's avoided it all, the route he's taken through is lumpy, but nothing to write home about,

the wolds at most, are 100m elevation in 1.2km - sharp, but short

Steve stopped in Barton on Humber just on the south side of the bridge for about 30 mins at 7-30pm. He wasn't far from Brough at that point so I think the stop for a refuel may be a sign of a late finish.

Otherwise I think he wouldn't have bothered stopping and would have gone straight to Brough for an 8pm approx finish.

The delay before the bridge was probably the Yorkshire frontier customs controllers going through his rack-pack looking for soft southern sausages.

He's now at his destination. 209.47 on the tracker, so probably 220mls at least.

Go, Steve.  Sleep well.

Do we think Kurt sees Steve's daily output and this motivates him to another hour or so on the bike?   Easy to monitor and respond then you're four to six hours behind.

If Kurt's got the stamina to do that when it's dark and cold and he's already got 180 miles under his belt, then he's a hero indeed.

The flatlands. There's got to be another MG up there somewhere.

Amazing stuff.

Average heart rate of 82bpm - that really is amazing. I wonder why he chose the wolds rather than just a little bit West on the flat - perhaps just for variety.

Steves heart rate is truely amazing, when mine is that low on a ride I don't feel like I'm generating enough internal heat to keep warm and my extremeties suffer.
Does anyone know his Max, I imagine that is really low too, one serious Diesel engine.

Remarkable. It’s a pity there isn’t any monitoring of his physiology and other parameters in progress - might have been an interesting article in it for someone in the sports medicine field or similar. Has Steve ever done a VO2?
