Trying to use an old HP printer deskjet 2542 to scan in a few documents and using the printer/scanner in system preferences does do anything. So was trying to trouble shoot to see if the printer is dead.
The printer is also wireless but who knows how
Thanks for the help.

The HP website is probably the best place for answering your questions.

Looked on the website and did the troubleshooting and it is in working condition. As much as pressing two buttons and getting a piece of printed piece of paper out. Next step is the software.

Vuescan is another option. It is listed as compatible with that HP. It includes built in drivers, maybe easier than finding the official ones. Has a free trial version.

Well shaking the printer to get a loose screw out means it work now with the standard mac scan software.
The mac had restarted after an update maybe it updated something.
Thanks for the help.

The only thing on the HP website for drivers is an update for the printer firmware.

That’s a built-in app called Image Capture where your scanner will show up if it’s supported.

Looked for that but it is not there, I think. Am going through system preferences and then printer scanner icon then scan.
Is that image capture?

I use Vuescan - it is brilliant

Another vote for Vuescan. Excellent customer support when I moved my Epson scanner from Windows to Mac and had trouble with the driver. Martin
