Title: Two things I didn't know about frogs...
Post by: andyoxon on 09 June, 2008, 10:06:44 am
 :)

1.They get attached to their usual home away from the pond.

I was cleaning out the shed and saw mr frog in a corner under a table.  Gently guided him out the door with a bit of bamboo, and along the outside of the shed a bit.  He stopped and wouldn’t budge – just kept on opening his mouth to warn me off.  I go back into the shed and carry on... a couple of mins later said frog comes hopping passed me back in to the corner.  Anyway there is a bit of a hole at the rear of the shed so he should be able to get out if needed.

2. They can 'walk' and not just hop.

After dark – I turned the outside light on, and a frog was looking for a tasty morsel and ‘stealth walking’ passed the plant pots.  I pretty sure it wasn’t a toad.  I’ve only ever seen our frogs hop before.

Why frogs hop and don't walk or run is one of the biggest questions in the study of amphibian evolution, and different experts have proposed different answers.
