Mrs Manotea lost my copy of Echo Beach. It gets mentioned every couple of years...

Just poking about among my tapes... isn't it amazing how some music stays fresh, like this, while other stuff dates so badly.

Talking Heads, from Stop Making Sense:

This brings back the 6th form common room for me.

Grrr..

As soon as I saw the title of the thread, I thought:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/XWtHEmVjVw8&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/XWtHEmVjVw8&rel=1</a>

Turns out I've been well 'n' truly beaten to it.  Someone took the credit for my second symphony...

So it'll have to be
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/uii8cE783yE&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/uii8cE783yE&rel=1</a>
Can anyone musically knowledgable tell me - is that a minor key that it starts in?  Is that unusual for songs these (or those) days?

Ah, the old 12 inches hey?  That takes me back.

I can think of a few - and Oh Superman and "Video killed the radio star" have already been covered.  This isn't my favourite OMD song (that'd be Joan of Arc) but Talking Loud and Clear reminds me of a picnic on a sunny day with my then girlfriend in a field with the smell of ripe crops wafting in the breeze.

In 1988 I was queuing in the Kings Heath, Birmingham branch of Sainsbury's and the guy behind me suddenly says, "That Roy Orbison, he's dead, you know".

What a legacy, though.

The live version of Psycho Killer, from Stop Making sense, played very loud in a beach bar on Paros in 1985 :)

Jean Genie by Bowie and Touch Too Much by AC/DC take me back to a legendary house party I went to when I was 13 or 14.  :D

Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC always takes me back to that era too. Lots of house parties where me and my friend Simon would pretend to be Bon Scott and Angus Young and he'd carry me round the room on his shoulders.  8)

The version on The Division Bell tour DVD with the 8 minute Dave Gilmour solo and the strange Disco Ball thingie has to be one of the musical highlights of my life .

Edit: I watched the whole DVD this week when I should have been working, in honour of Rick Wright.

Faith No More...one of my favourite bands.  I saw them live at the Reading Festival and Hammersmith Odeon.  Brilliant live band.  Mike Patton was the perfect replacement for Chuck Mosely.  I used to put this song on the jukebox in our pub every weekend.

I will also add...
Sweet Harmony by Liquid
Mad World by Tears For Fears
Don't You Want Me Baby by Human League
Kool in the Kaftan by B A Robertson

Hine e hine a Maori lullaby.

It was played at my father's funeral (the Kiri te Kanawa and the Maori Music Group version - not the awful saccharine Haylet Westenra version).  It also takes me back to my days in the school choir,  when I was the only pakeha in a Maori school.
