A cracking event blessed with good weather, stunning scenery and great camaraderie on the road. It’s lovely to be able to escape to Planet Audax for a few days every once in a while but that indulgence is only possible with the hard work, organisation and support of others so many thanks to Graeme, Martin and the rest of the team.
The open all hours bag drop van in Oban was genius and the fact that it was also used as overnight accommodation for a couple of the younger riders on the last night was wonderful and caused this old cynic to smile all the way to Edinburgh.
As someone whose luxury at Oban YHA was a chunk of Stilton and some water biscuits, I was almost in rapture at the beer, cheese and charcuterie Arrivee at Monty’s Bar so cheers to the unfortunate DNSers who made the free bar possible.
Finally, thanks to all the riders who gave the ride a lovely ambience particularly my colleagues from VC167 who got me round, the sharp-dressed, beautifully turned out men machines of the Scottish Borders Randonneurs and the charming man we picked up in a lay-by desolate about 200km from the finish.
