Managed to get clipped by a van as I filtered on the right up to some lights. He swerved out to avoid a line of Lycra clad LeJoG types and hit bars with his door mirror. I fell, was doing under 10mph.

Minor cuts and bruises and a v sore hand. Turns out I've got a spiral fracture of my 3rd metacarpal in my right hand. Ouch!

Got gert big cast on hand until I can see the specialist tomorrow am. Suspect it is six weeks off the bike unless I can figure out how you pull two brakes with one hand.

Bike is fine other than front wheel needing trueing.

Had a lovely ride, via Clapham Junction.  Till I got close to home, when I got almost sideswiped by a van who Had To Pass The Cyclist.  He held me up from thereon until he took the ratrun turn, where I said something incautious, which I hadn't expected him to hear.  Screech of brakes, skidding tyres, and drivign striaght at me.  I hopped onto the kerb, and rode up some random drive.  He left.

He's still a twat.

Yes I did.

I'm hoping I just get a splint. And maybe a new turbo trainer...

Took the Long Route Home via Tower bridge over the Blue Curacao Highway. I encountered one of my collegues on the way on a scarily heavy-geared fixie and found out how annoying it is to ride with someone on the Cable Street part. I probably got in the way of some of the faster cyclists in the process.

Indeed! Thanks for all the kind words. Already getting itchy about no bike for a few weeks.

A38, just here

I should know better. I was filtering to turn right and I know they are never looking in their mirrors up here, I get a few near misses a month. I need to stop riding like I'm 18 / an idiot or change my route... but this part of the A38 is nice and quick.

Good!  If they want to go fast they should either be on the A13 or The Highway (see rants passim).

Blue Curacao Highway.

I like that I do.  Can I borrow it?
There are two ways you can get exercise out of a bicycle: you can
"overhaul" it, or you can ride it.  (Jerome K Jerome)

On route home this evening I helped a Dutch coluple of slightly advanced years (Classic as opposed to Vintage) who were on a cycle touring holiday and wanted directions to Maidenhead. I ponted them on their way and continued my journey. About 5 minutes on I spied a map laying in the middle of the road. I picked it up and saw it was a tourist map of the Thames Valley. Putting two and two together, I turned round and gave chase but couldn't find the couple on the route I gave them. I checked a few side roads and was about to give up when I saw them cycling towards me. It was their map

They had seen a little cycle route sign saying Maidenhead 2 miles but couldn't use the farcility as the barrier/ gate near the start was too restrictive to get their luggage laden Dutch Bikes through. Their plan for the day started in Oxford and they were going to ride to London. They had followed Thames side paths to Marlow but decided the route was too rough. They had opted to ride to Maidenhead and put themselves and their bikes on the train for the last leg of the days journey.

I bid them farewell and finished my ride home. An extra 22 minutes and 5 1/2 miles. All miles are good miles

Nice ride noticeably fewer cars about.

Stopped at some lights on the north side of Clapham Common,  as the small group of cyclists pull away,  one chap fail to proceed,  as his rear wheel has fallen off.

So I stop to help put it back on again,  and send him on his way..
Not a mechanical that I have had to deal with before.

I often feel as if my wheel has come off. 3p.m. is a good time for that.

But it was the best of mornings today, wasn't it?

Distinct lack of traffic in London SW today as well, presumably as a result of school closures. Beautiful morning, 100% absence of any motorised tomfoolery, a couple of very considerate WVs, decent passing distances all round. Life is good.

Lack of traffic round the school hotspots, but there still contrived to be significant queues in other places.  Pleasant ride, and fast.  Lots of cyclists. :D

Absolutely insane driving at E&C. >:(

But it didn't spoil the day.

I have to confess that a wheel falling off is a new one on me, darkpoint.  Well done for not laughing.

I pray, for their sake Darkpoint, that their rear is the only wheel that falls off for them today.

I was hoping the roads would be quieter due to school closures but no. Did see five or six other cyclists though, which is a lot for round here.

There was still huge masses of traffic between Peckham and the Oval on the A202, even more so today.

Oh I don't know. Usual commute is just over 6 1/2 miles in around 28 minutes. Last night was 12 miles dead in 55 minutes....... Bugger!

Extra 5 1/2 miles in 27 minutes ::-)
