Was that Nigel Lawson on Today this morning?  Blimey.

Yes it was. I didn't get round to nominating him. In reply to one point he said "That's just speculation".Thereby moving the "discussion" to something that he's familiar with.

What a scumbag.

Nothing new about that but the latest revelations from the Brooks woman (assuming they're true) just serve to lower him still further in my estimation.

My reactions were an equal measure of "W T actual F" and "I'm not at all surprised". Fucker.

Rebekah Brooks - apparently she "didn't think phone hacking was illegal."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26337845 refers - she's a bigger failure as a human being than she evidently was as a newspaper editor, and I'm pretty sure that in the league table of legal defences, 'ignorance' is barely hovering above the relegation zone.

To be fair, it was standard newspaper journalism (well delegated to seedy ex-police officers, along with sorting through bins etc.), so she might reasonably feel aggrieved. That doesn't mean I'm sympathetic. We need a robo-Nelson to iteratively ha-Ha them.

Ah, you caught up with this.

My take is that the monkey-felching cockroach-nobbler saw it as a way of forcing prisons to buy books from an 'efficient private industry source'.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

In my particular universe, apologising for defrauding the taxpayer out of several tens of thousands of pounds does not make everything all right and magically go away.

Y'see, the likes of Briscoe, Clifford, and us if we were that stupid, go to prison.   Why is it then that politicians get off with a repayment not even equal to the gain and with a job still, albeit for just sixty odd grand per year?
