Turbos with Thru-Axle bikes
« on: 08 December, 2019, 04:08:17 pm »
Mrs F. has bought a turbo ( without discussing it with me! ), and I don't think it can be used with her bike.

It comes with a replacement QR skewer which can be clamped in the turbo.
There are no parts which relate to a Thru-Axle bike.

What's the general story here?
Do you get thru-axles designed to be clamped into turbos?

The turbo in question is a cheapie from Amazon ( A Yahee Tech model: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yaheetech-Magnetic-Resistance-Controlled-Reduction/dp/B07YXN9CJ2/ ).

You can get wossnames to allow you to use a QR to clamp a thru-axle hub.  Presumably that would work for a turbo?

(I've got a pair that I've infrequently used for clamping stub-axle trike wheels in the truing stand.)

I've used my thru axle bike in a Wahoo turbo, at a 'studio'. I just messaged in advance and they used an adapter.

Not cheap... Good luck!

This might be worth a go, £20, supposedly lets a TA hub be used on a turbo

I've got one of those - used it on both of my wheel-on turbos. It's right at the edge of the adjustment for the turbo so the wheel isn't central on the roller, but it seems to work fine.

I had to buy a ludicrously expensive adaptor from Tacx to fit my bike on to my turbo. Then it didn't fit properly and I had to get an extra spacer bit (which, for reasons I don't quite understand, isn't included as standard with said overpriced adaptor ???). I'm still not convinced it's properly fitted and so haven't tried it out yet...this is a direct drive one though, so hopefully wheel-on turbos are more straightforward!

I think this is all the universe's way of telling you to go for a real bike ride...   ;D

Well, yes. Quite.
I'm shunning the thing as best I can as is compatible with marital harmony.
