Is anyone still making Arts and Entertainment?
« on: 20 March, 2020, 06:39:27 pm »
Is the near future made entirely of Youtubers? Solo guitar singer song-writers? Musical comedians? One-man bands - no, the horror  :hand:

(The Now Show is really creepy right now with no studio audience.)

No orchestras, no ballet. Linedancing will require much wider tellys.

Even where stuff is still being made, lots of it won't be released (like the new Bond).

who wants to predict how this will work out? I know we have a few professionals on the forum.

Netflix is more popular than ever. Disney+ is launching next week.
Will be more films going straight to streaming, and not bothering with a cinema release.

Which will bypass me, I'm afraid.

Some sorts of recorded music that is not solo instrument and/or voice can still be made:

where each instrument/voice are recorded individually,

music created on a computer.

Street photography, my preferred genre, is mainly architecture now.
It is simpler than it looks.

I write books that no one other myself and my wife read. I quite like this. I consider it as crystallizing my imagination. If I'm feeling generous I give myself a three-star review and complain about the poor ending.

My son says he's going to use his enforced six month holiday to write a book. Sci-fi. He's written the first chapter already. I'm going to be his editor, proofreader and audience. I'll let you know how it turns out...*

All my gigs have been cancelled. I thought I might do some recording. Whether or not I think the results will be fit to disseminate amongst the wider population remains to be seen (or heard).
There's no vibrations, but wait.

I think my wife may go a bit crazy now all her rehearsals and performances are cancelled. I've offered to turn the next couple of weeks into a musical. She loves musicals.

The look, oh the look, she gave me. Purest daggers.

But if this is oblivion, I'm going out singing.

We're moving to working from home (VFX). The MPAA has seemingly relented and relaxed their security requirements. Still a few technical hurdles to be  solved. However, since most on-set production has stopped, we will run out of work in a few months time.
It wont affect me too much, as I'm changing career after the current project anyways, but I suspect we'll see a delayed down-turn, followed by a crazy upturn as the industry kicks into gear again...even if it's a prolonged recession, the movie industry has traditionally done well during recessions, as people still want to be entertained..

Ours is architecture plus a 135€ fine for being out.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Construction of the future Mr von Brandenburg's studio continues in spite of the Lurgi, so you may expect, once the soundproofing has gone in...

There's plenty of guitars knocking around Schloß von Brandenburg, so I should not be at all surprised to find a bass there too :P
