Title: PBP: lotions and potions
Post by: EdinburghFixed on 18 April, 2011, 06:31:38 pm
We haven't had a new eye-rollingly trivial yet nugget-of-truth-containing PBP topic for a few days, so I thought I'd start this one.

Just about the only thing I've definitely decided to bring to France (apart from myself and the frame of my bike) is Reimann P20 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Riemann-P20-Once-Day-200ml/dp/B000R2IBNY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303147587&sr=8-1), which is an exquisitely expensive yet effective sort of suncream that I first discovered in Nepal in November.

Given that I crisp up at the first hint of sun on a February 200k in Scotland, it says a lot that one application of this stuff kept me happy with clear skies and snow at up to 5,000m in the Himalaya.

So, what's your top cosmetic tip for PBP? Is vaseline where it's at for chafage? etc.  :D

unless you're me in which case it's a sachet of sugar and a pinch of salt - does the same job.  As recommended by a GP once upon a time as an alternative thereto

Nuun.

Thankfully found out early on in my Audax career that I don't need Sudocreme or the like.

Andy: Conotrane was my find another Convert!

Converted Hugh H. :says it's better than Assos Chamios cream.. :)

It's not easy to find because Boots/Superdrug want money up front for shelf space.
(although they all have it under the counter

Mr C. sells at £1.35 a tube would rather keep his costs down.

Pleasant smell too, and I am sure it would double up as emergency chain lube

I have been using P20 for years. It binds to keratin in your skin and will actually last for days if you don't shower with soap. It is unaffected by sweat or swimming in the sea etc! The SPF isn't quite enough to protect kids in tropical climates, but is more than sufficient for the UK I find. The crucial thing is you have to put it onto clean skin before any moisturiser and at least 30 minutes before you go out into the sun.

i was wearing an extra layer of skin under my sitbones on 1600k, no lotions/potions were needed. and a long sleeved jersey to hide my skin from the sun.

Except St Neots Boots during LEL 2001. The rider who told me this didn't even ask for it -  as he approached the counter in his cycling gear the assistant told him "Sorry, we've sold out of Conotrane."

I've never felt the need for such unguents.

Oh - and you forgot Immodium.

I've only needed that once.  :hand:

And- IIRC- you didn't have any with you either!

Actually... I did, and offered it to you. You "preferred to get it out of your system..."
