I think the eastern members should get a go, but one person taking it from the west coast to east coast defeats the object of a relay somewhat.  ::-)

Well, assuming it continues on a fairly western route to JoG, once it gets there it could always head back south again via a more easterly route.
Half term's when the traffic becomes mysteriously less bad for a week.

And it's off again!  Just about to leave for the handover to Mal Volio!

Hey don't forget the Midlanders!  ::-) I'm sure there are plenty of us in the middle that wouldn't mind doing part of a west - east transit. I thought the idea was that it took the most wiggly route possible anyway.

I only said "more easterly", not "keeping the North Sea in sight at all times"  :).

I've updated the Map and the photos on the page 1 OP.

Tewdric, where do you live?  (so I can update the baton's journey).

Is the baton going to make an appearance at the camping week end?

I'm a bit worried by this - Feline has lost her baton-exchanging wimple! Is it no longer obligatory for Sisters of the Order of Religious Cycling, or has she fallen from pedalling grace?

I'm extremely worried that the Baton may have been kidnapped by the Tafia.
Although in the hands of Salvatore at the start of the Brevet Cymru yesterday morning, it appears to have sprouted a Welsh flag sticker.  :'(

Hopefully it has been bought back over the river, where distinguishing marks can be restored to those of a YACF nature. We wouldn't want people getting the wrong idea about it's origins, would we ? :P

Nice! Two more and you'd have a full compliment of legs for a milking stool.

Just wondering if the YACF LEJoG Relay is going slightly ‘off message’? ???  Has a new objective been added to this thread?  :-\  Get an object involved in as many Audax rides as possible, whilst touching Lands End and John o Groats!! :(

Not really.  It happened to land in Chepstow at the same time as the Brevet Cymru, so the opportunity was taken to show it the West coast of Wales; it's not often that one person is going to ride right across a country and back in a day.

I have it now, and my plan is to speed it on its way along a LEJOG route by taking it up to someone further North. Just arranging that now.

I will be happy to accept it somewhere north of Hereford on the LEJOG route

I hereby claim 2 records:

1) The shortest distance between handover locations: I passed it on to Mal Volio some 2ft 9¾in SSE of where I received it from tewdric.
2) The longest distance ridden with the baton - 450 km between Friday afternoon and Sunday lunchtime.

Having it on display as per LEE's photo did provoke several comments from other riders on Saturday, usually something like "Excuse me for asking, but why have you got a miniature table leg on the back of your bike?"

I think we should all come up with some witty or befuddling responses to that question!

It is a CCC
It is simpler than it looks.

It is a CCC
That was suggested a few times, mainly at the camping weekend. Including an offer from Tewdric to embellish the end.

Also it was strongly suggested that a certain Pompey member should never be allowed to get his hands (or any other part of his anatomy) on it.

Yes, we'd have to censor any photos of him 'carrying' it!

With the Ian Tomlinson case in the news I'm reminded of Harry Stanley, shot by a policeman who mistook a table leg he was carrying for a gun.  Be careful out there.

Tewdric hands it to Salvatore at my house

Salvatore takes it to New Quay and back

Salvatore hands it to me at my house

i rode from home with it today over the Gospel Pass to Hay. Here it is atop Hay Bluff:

I met inc in Weobly in Herefordshire and the hand-over took place:

inc had a special carrier to keep it safe:

It's with inc now, in Shropshire

That's not at all suggestive or symbolic.
