...or Grouty.
I've just had a squint at his filmography on IMDB. Long, really long. He was only in four episodes of Porridge, and according to a report I read on the BBC website was a bit naffed off annoyed about only being known for being Grouty.

3 episodes and the film. He was in the TV series of The Bourne Identity.
-
Is it just me who remembers him mainly from being Shirley's dad in "Citizen Smith", then?
-
I've seen him in lots of things and he's been great in them all. I always think first of him as Tulkinghorn in Bleak House.

There's me as well, and I remember when Tony Steedman took over.

I remember him in other stuff as well, but forever cemented in my mind as Grouty.

No. He was brilliant. That Christmas crib scene was a classic.
-
And of course Winston the Ogre in 'Time Bandits'. I have unsuccessfully been trying to master the way he says "bloody prawns" for decades.
-
He must have done 'The Sweeney'. Surely. He did malice very well.

Two young villains, Tyson and Jenner, working for gang boss Tony Kirby, are relieved of the spoils of their robbery by a mysterious gun-man, who shoots Jenner in the leg.

Same here. "Genial" 'Arry Grout.
Just a few minutes of screen-time and yet carved into popular culture*
*Not including Wowbagger.

For me, he will always be Mr Helpman.
Ere I am J.H.

Looking at his Wiki entry,I was reminded of a TV series called "The Gold Robbers,in which Vaughan played a detective. I can remember watching that on black and white TV. Now feeling quite old.
-
I remember him playing The Chiropodist* in Lenny Henry's Coast to Coast.
*A gangster who cut his victims feet off.
