[HAMR] 21st March - day 80
« on: 21 March, 2015, 05:32:22 am »
For the first time, the riders will have more daylight hours than darkness, yesterday having been the equinox.

No sign on the tracker yet, but I'm in. Remote farmhouse in rural Wales at the moment and bits of signal are few and far between. Maybe news hasn't reached me yet.

Good luck sSteve, and come on Wales!

Off and running - heading to Dorset today I understand.  Hope to intercept him somewhere in Oxfordshire and cheer him on.  Charging up the iPhone so I can see him on the tracker

If Dorset today, then Steve looks to be playing another blinder with the prevailing winds. N or NE today, S or SW tomorrow.

GO STEVE!

He's tweaking the Gibbon's tail again.

Winds duly noted. Put out the spinnaker, Steve.

Doesn't look so great tomorrow though: Earth Wind Map gives NE again.

actually there's been more daylight than darkness since the 18th, on account of day being timed from when the upper edge of the sun touches the horizon, rather than the centre. You get an extra 5 or 6 minutes from refraction too.

We are hosting in Blandford Forum tonight for the second time. It was arranged on Thursday. I guess 2 days in advance is when the team can be confident of the weather forecast. Preparations have started. For some unknown reason MrsTGS seems to think the hob needs cleaning.  ::-)

Rode with Steve for a few km...       Managed to meet (aka spot tracker ambush) Steve as he headed through Sutton Courtenay on his way South.  Rode with him to midway through the Oxfordshire badlands (on way to East Hanney)...

Well done AndyOxon. I missed him near Wittenham but he stopped for a short picnic in East Hanney where I caught him up. He seemed in good spirits especially when trying to work out where to put in an extra loop as his route to Blandford was only 180 miles.  Said he got more company at weekends and I said that was having to work. He seemed quite happy to carry on riding his bike rather than going back to work.

Nice one.   I saw he was going to Dorset, so I waited until I was fairly sure he was on course for the Vale (after several refreshes of the STkr page), before setting off.   I asked Steve where he might have a 'second breakfast', but didn't catch what he said...   :)      I noticed that his carradice rackpack is looking nicely worn in...

I've just had a look at the strava data for the last time he came to Blandford (Tue 27th Jan). It was the same route, and he got to Stockbridge in 10hrs50, where he stopped for a meal with LEE OTP. He's through Stockbridge today after 8hrs50.

I should think he'll be putting in an extra loop. Don't put the kettle on just yet TGS.

No wonder Steve said there were a lot of us out today; I would have been the third in two hours!
