Sunset's been at 15:38 for a few days here, and will be for a few more: we gain a minute of evening light on the 20th, when it will be at 15:39.

It's also very warm. I wore a lighter coat than usual this morning, and was still a bit hot.

16:01 today, 16:02 tomorrow. By the end of next week it will be as late as 16:05.

Here this is the 8th day out of 8 with a sunset of 15:52.  In a weeks time it’s 15:55. Sunrise was 08:04. The latest is 08:10 around the end of December.

Ok, I accept that it’s not proper drecht here, but it is cold wet and grey.
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

It was 12 degrees this morning at 6.15 am, when I went to the gym.

That's just not right.

One of the things I love about living under an approach path to Furrybootoon airport is that when it's windy as feck you get to hear all the plane engines really being worked hard to stay in the air  :-X

Garden waste bin has been for a short walk. Cold frame was upside down in the herb bed.

We just had a natter with our younger son. There was a lot of snow lying, and it was snowing again, about 40km west of Helsinki. But it isn't -17°C any more.

I tried to go to the shop earlier and found the front door was barricaded by a pile of wheelie-bins.

There are people on Faceache who have posted photos of nacreous clouds visible from Southend and telling everyone that they have photographed the Northern Lights. One such photo is taken from the sea front in Thorpe Bay and the "northern lights" in question are situated somewhere high over Kent...

Awake the greater part of the night listening to the wind battering the house and our somewhat fragile barn, expecting to hear the crash of tiles any second. All well this morning: it turns out that the gusts, forecast for 90 kph, never reached 70.

Brain deader than usual this morning.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I know the family is always telling me I have a narrow operating window but at 18.1C I was freezing with frozen nose and hands, an hour later at 19C and I'm boiling...

Are you sure you're not dreaming that it's snowing?
